Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kanye West after seven years of marriage and months of reports about strife surrounding the couple, TMZ and Page Six are reporting.

Kardashian’s celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser filed the papers on Friday, Page Six said. Kardashian, 40, is asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four children: daughters North, 7, and Chicago, 3; and sons Saint, 5, and Psalm, who turns 2 in May.

Sources told TMZ that West, 43, is fine with the joint custody arrangement and that the couple are committed to co-parenting together. The divorce has been expected for months, with reports that the reality TV star and rapper have been in the process of dividing their property.

In January, multiple outlets pointed out that Kardashian had stopped wearing her wedding ring, while West made a point of skipping her family’s extravagant birthday and holiday gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This week, West reportedly was having a hard time dealing with the likelihood of divorce, People reported.

“Kanye is not doing well,” a source close to the musician told People.

In the end, it doesn’t sound like anyone was really surprised that the couple couldn’t make the marriage work in the long-term, even after an over-the-top fairy-tale wedding ceremony in Italy in 2014 and the spectacle of spending $20 million to renovate their Calabasas mansion.

It has long been reported that they differ on politics and that West has a hard time with his wife’s reality TV lifestyle. Kardashian has spent the past few years publicly supporting West in his struggles with bipolar disorder and making excuses for his sometimes wild and controversial statements about race, President Donald Trump’s MAGA vision of America and their personal lives.

The marriage seemed to reach a breaking point over the summer after West launched a failed run for U.S. president and suffered a mental health breakdown, confirmed by Kardashian.
