OAKLAND >> A fundraising account has been set up for the daughter of a 27-year-old woman who died Feb. 11, four days after she was shot in East Oakland.

No motive has been released so far in the fatal shooting of Shaquoia Bass-Moody of Oakland, and no arrests have been announced.

Bass-Moody was shot about 7:55 p.m. p.m. Feb. 7 in the 7000 block of Spencer Street, a few blocks from her home.

She was shot in the neck after getting into an argument with another person. Police have not said what the argument was about.

She got a ride to a hospital from another person. The suspect fled before police arrived.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.

The funding effort was set up by relatives to support pressing family needs and to provide for BassMoody’s 1-year-old daughter, Josie.

Bass-Moody’s brother Dawon Davis said her death hit family and community members especially hard, knowing it came two days before what would have been her 28th birthday. The tragedy didn’t stop several people from staging public gatherings, some including balloons, flowers, candles spelling out “MOODY” and a banner.

Davis remembered her fondly Thursday not only as his last living sister but also as a diligent single mother and proud Rudsdale High graduate who drew on strength and resilience forged from a stint in foster care and from working multiple jobs, including as a health care aide with San Francisco firm Homebridge.

“Through this campaign, it is the hope to raise funds for Shaquoia’s 1-year-old daughter and family for support to help them during this emotionally and financially difficult time,” a Spotfund online fundraising campaign created this week said.

As of about 2:45 p.m. Friday, that campaign had raised $1,325 toward an initial $22,000 target.
