Curry may have a shot to return vs. Chicago

Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been upgraded to questionable for Monday’s game against the Chicago Bulls at Chase Center, according to head coach Steve Kerr.

Curry, who missed the last five games with a tailbone injury, was a full participant in practice Sunday.

“We scrimmaged some just now, and he’s getting some extra work in, so we want to see how he responds to that,” Kerr said. “And then it’s a discussion with (the training staff). We’ll see where it all goes.”

Getting Curry back would be a major boost to a team that has lost nine of its last 12 games, including four of five without Curry.

“When Steph is on the floor, we just have confidence and swagger that’s missing when he’s not,” Kerr said. “And that helps our defense.”

Curry is averaging 29 points on 47.5% shooting (40.8% from 3-point range), 5.3 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

Second-year guard Jordan Poole has started at point guard during Curry’s absence and has averaged 20.4 points.

It didn’t take long for the Warriors to notice the difference when Curry was on the floor Sunday.

“It’s always great to have a guy like him around,” said teammate Juan Toscano-Anderson said. “Just based on his presence. On the floor, off the floor, who he is, the energy he brings. Today, there was a turnover in practice and he got upset, and it was like, ‘OK, our leader’s back, our guy’s back.’ So it’s exciting.

“Obviously, we’re a much better team with him on the floor. So, super excited to have him back whenever that is. Hopefully, sooner the better.”
