STANFORD >> As state and county COVID-19 public health orders continue to loosen, Stanford University has announced it will start gradually reopening its arts and athletic venues in April.

In a recent notice to the campus community, Stanford said that starting April 12, it will begin to open outdoor spaces that are part of its arts and athletics zones.

Though it may seem a little desolate these days, the Stanford campus does have some graduate and undergraduate students roaming its halls. And with juniors and seniors returning to residence halls for the spring quarter, the campus slowly is coming back to life again.

The Anderson Collection and the Cantor Arts Center will allow the public to visit — at 25% capacity — from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, starting April 21. Stanford’s Frost Amphitheater also will reopen in the spring with outdoor movies, and during summer it will transition to live performances, the notice says.

Stanford students, faculty and staff will get a sneak peek at the newly reopened museums April 16-18.

The school will start giving out free tickets required for museum admission a week before the opening.

The Anderson Collection will be opening its first floor galleries May 2, then close during the summer for maintenance and artwork reinstallation and reopen in the fall.

Also, starting Thursday, Stanford plans to open up athletic venues for families and friends of student-athletes.
