The Bottom Line: What is a GV70? The GV70 is the newest entry from Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis, the 2022 GV70 luxury compact SUV is the little brother of the Genesis GV80 SUV. Built on the same platform as the G70 sedan, the GV70 SUV is sharp looking, quick and sporty.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 starts at $41,000, plus a destination fee of $1,045. The top of the line GV70, with the 3.5T AWD Sport Prestige package, begins at $52,600. The 2022 GV70 is the latest proof that the Genesis brand is a rising star in the luxury car class.

The GV70 is available with either a turbocharged 2.5L liter four cylinder engine, or a twin turbocharged 3.5L liter V6 engine. The 4 cylinder serves as the entry level engine and makes 300 hp, while the V6 makes 375 hp, and is exclusively offered on the Sport model.

This week Genesis sent me a 2022 GV70 AWD 3.5L Sport Prestige SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this upscale model is $52,600. The options on the test SUV are: the Adriatic paint for $500, the Sport Advanced package for $5,000 and the Sport Prestige Package for $4,900. The total MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,045 destination charge, came to: $64,045.

After adding in the local and state sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the total purchase price came to: $72,051. That number puts this GV70 just under the luxury SUV $75,000 price threshold, and with all these options, in a brand new for 2022 model, it sets the Genesis GV70 as the best priced luxury compact SUV on the market today.

Genesis is known for their high content, high value, and high quality cars and SUVs for being extremely affordable. The GV70 Sport Prestige Edition hammers this point home.

The powertrain technology starts with a 3.5L liter GDI gas direct injection V/6 engine with twin turbochargers that make 375 HP horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, that bolts to an 8 speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and flows into an AWD all wheel drive traction control system with Drive Mode Select.

The front and rear ends have a multilink electronically controlled suspension system with Road Preview, an algorithm that maps the road ahead of you to maintain positive ride and handling control at all times. The brake system is enhanced with Monobloc front disc brakes for perfect braking, and it has alloy pedals for positive foot placement.

The GV70 has a long list of premium luxury appointments and the Sport Advanced package adds a whole lot more. It starts with the Nappa leather seating with sports pattern quilting and layered edge backlit trim, then adds in a leatherette upper instrument and door panels, a suede headliner, a heated steering wheel, a Genesis digital key, surround view monitors, blind spot view monitors, remote smart parking assist, front parking distance warning

sensors, and rear parking collision avoidance assist.

The Sport Prestige package adds in a set of very cool looking 21” sport alloy wheels, an electronic limited slip differential, real carbon fiber trim, a three zone climate control system, heated 2nd row seats, rear window side shades, a 12.3” digital center stack screen, and a HU heads up display.

The comfort and convenience list is over 32 lines long, and includes LED Quad headlamps, LED rear combination tail lamps, power folding outside heated mirrors with turn signal indicators, a 16 way power driver’s seat, a 12 way power passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, a premium navigation with a 14.5” HD high definition display screen, wireless charging pads, two 12 volt power outlets, a 110 volt power outlet, a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, fingerprint recognition, and over the air computer updates, just to name a few of the special options.

For your audio delight the Genesis GV70 includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Sirius AM FM XM HD high definition radio, that runs through a fantastic Lexicon Premium Audio sound system. No matter what you like to listen to, this Lexicon radio with 16 individual custom tuned speakers, is one the best vehicle sound systems available.

When you’re ready to buy a new compact luxury SUV, the Genesis GV70 should be on your ride and drive list, as it is one of the best priced, and newest, luxury SUVs for sale today. Call, click or visit your local Genesis dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on a new 2022 GV70. And note that the base window sticker price for a new Genesis GV70 luxury SUV starts at only $41,000.

A word to the wise is sufficient: Be Smart, Stay Safe, and Just Breathe. Remember, “You Are What You Drive ©” And maybe, just for those reasons alone, you should “Drive one, Buy one, Today ©”.
