Young Thug loses a bag holding fortune

- From staff and wire reports

It was a big week for rapper Young Thug: He released a new album, appeared on “Saturday Night Live” — and sued his apartment manager over the disappearance of a bag whose contents he values at more than $1 million.

Young Thug, real name Jeffery Williams, filed suit in Georgia’s Gwinnett County over a Louis Vuitton bag that went missing on Nov. 1, 2020.

The court document says that, on returning from a trip to Los Angeles that evening, Young Thug parked his Lamborghini in the secured garage of his building, the Trace, in Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood. He unloaded the car and went to his apartment, but left a leather Vuitton bag next to the car.

Another resident reported the bag to the building’s concierge on duty; she retrieved it and let Young Thug know it would be held for him in the office.

The concierge put a note on the bag saying not to hand it off to anyone without her approval, but another employee allegedly “released the property to an unknown person.” The complaint against the building’s management says the bag itself was valued at about $2,500, and that it contained:

• $40,000 in U.S. currency.

• A diamond-encrusted watch worth approximately $57,000.

• A chain with inset diamonds worth approximately $37,000.

• “A hard drive containing approximately 200 unreleased songs by Plaintiff/ Young Thug worth at least an estimated $1,000,000.”

Young Thug is requesting a jury trial and seeking to recover “the full present-day value of his lost property in an amount to be proven at trial.”

The 30-year-old rapper released his second studio album, “Punk,” on Friday.

The following night he performed on “SNL” with Gunna, Nate Ruess and Travis Barker. Young Thug shared in the 2019 Grammy for song of the year as a co-writer of Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.”

The previous year, “Havana,” on which he collaborated with Camila Cabello, won multiple awards including the American Music Award for favorite pop/rock song.
