Comedy roundup: Sykes, Handler, Wayans
It’s looking like a great weekend for comedy fans. Here’s a partial roundup. (Check venue websites for COVID-19safety requirements.)
Wanda Sykes: The Emmy-winning actor and comedian, always a popular draw in the Bay Area, is known for her many TV roles, including “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Alpha House,” and such movie appearance as “Monster-in-Law,” “Evan Almighty” and the animated “Ice Age: Continental Drift” and “Ice Age: Collision Course.” She’s also a sharp and topical stand-up performer, and that’s what’s bringing her to San Francisco this weekend. Chelsea Handler: She’s probably best known for hosting the talk shows “Chelsea Lately” (2007-14) on E! and “Chelsea” (201617) on Netflix, but her outspoken and irreverent comedy was a big part of both shows. Damon Wayans: The actor, comedian, writer and producer, part of the famed Wayans entertainment family, broke through as one of the best parts of the classic improv show “In Living Color,” and has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including “My Wife and Kids” (which he also created and produced) and the “Lethal Weapon” TV series. “Kountry” Wayne Colley: A series of viral posts on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube turned this young Georgia comedian into a social media star, and now he’s bringing his R-rated, freestyle stand-up show to the Bay Area.
