Longtime Ducks GM Murray steps down

- By The Associated Press

Ducks general manager Bob Murray resigned a day after he was placed on administrative leave amid an investigation into his workplace conduct.

Murray plans to enter a treatment program for alcohol abuse, the team and Murray said Wednesday.

The 66-year-old Murray has been with the organization since 2005 and has run the hockey operations since November 2008, the thirdlongest active tenure for a GM in the NHL.

“I want to apologize to anyone adversely affected by my behavior,” Murray said. “I vow to make changes to my life, starting with enrolling in a treatment program . ... As I step away from the Ducks, I will focus my attention on where it should be: improving my life for the betterment of my family and friends.”

Jeff Solomon, who joined the Ducks’ front office in May, will be the GM while the club seeks a permanent replacement, owners Henry and Susan Samueli said. PRICE TELLS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE >> Canadiens goalie Carey Price revealed that he voluntarily entered the NHL’s player assistance program more than a month ago due to substance use.

“Over the last few years I have let myself get to a very dark place and I didn’t have the tools to cope with that struggle,” Price said. “Things had reached a point that I realized I needed to prioritize my health for both myself and for my family.”

Price rejoined the team on Sunday, but has not begun to practice. Instead, he has met with the team’s athletic trainers to come up with a plan to get back into shape after having knee surgery July 22, after leading Montreal to the Stanley Cup final.

He met with his teammates Tuesday for the first time since entering the program.

QUICK SHOTS >> Defenseman Josh Brown became the sixth Senators player in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol, with the team canceling practice for precautionary reasons. The Senators are scheduled to host the Kings tonight.

Blackhawks forward Brandon Hagel is expected to miss two weeks with a left shoulder injury.
