`Micro food hall' will be opening in Los Gatos and Campbell this summer

A “micro food hall” that showcases Bay Area food favorites is set to open in Los Gatos and Campbell this summer.

Local Kitchens is a new dining concept that allows diners to mix and match their order from various restaurants in a single order.

“So let's say you're a family of four, and the dad wanted a bowl of curry, the mom wanted a sandwich, and the kids wanted chicken nuggets. They all could order from the five to 10 (restaurant) concepts on that one iPad kiosk,” said Hannah Koury, spokesperson for Local Kitchens.

The Los Gatos Local Kitchens will be located at the former Pizza Studio site at 681 Blossom Hill Road. Campbell's Local Kitchens will open at 1640 S. Bascom Ave. Another location is set to open in Mill Valley this summer. The micro food hall is already doing business in Cupertino, Palo Alto, San Jose, Mountain View and Lafayette.

Each of the new locations will start out with five restaurants and are set to expand to between eight and 10 in the future.

The restaurant partners have yet to be announced, but Koury said that it will be a diverse range of offerings from restaurants outside the West Valley area.

“One of the reasons Local Kitchens opened is they wanted to bring local and smaller restaurants to areas that may not have access to these restaurants,” Koury said. “The concepts that will be at the Campbell and Los Gatos will be restaurants that aren't based in those cities; they're based in San Mateo or San Francisco or Sacramento.”

Local Kitchen's Roseville location features two Sacramento-based restaurant partners: Nashville-style fried chicken from Nash & Proper, and farm-to-fork salads and sandwiches from Garden of Eat'n. But it also houses three Bay Area eateries, including Filipino fusion restaurant Senor Sisig, grilled cheese and burger joint The Melt, and Indian street food from Curry Up Now.

Koury said Local Kitchens choose smaller cities to open in to introduce cuisine that they might not already have locally.

“Diversity is a big factor. I don't think you'll see two burger places that have very similar menus at a Local Kitchens because we want to provide a diverse menu for these customers,” Koury said.

Local Kitchens launched in 2020 and has raised $28 million through investors. The restaurant partners license their recipes with Local Kitchens, and help train their chefs to make the foods. Both the Los Gatos and Campbell locations will have outdoor and indoor dining options.

Koury said the company hopes to get all its locations to partner with DoorDash and GrubHub for food delivery in the future.
