You Are What You Drive — A Bottom Line Review

The Bottom Line: What is a 430i? The 430i Gran Coupe is BMW’s second generation of the 4 series hatchback 4 door sedan that features standard RWD rear wheel drive and a twin turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. BMW calls it a Gran Coupe.

And what does Gran Coupe mean in BMW speak? The Gran Coupe is a 4 door compact car that shares the low sweeping roofline, and sleek stylish curves, of a classic 2 door. The BMW 4 Series cars are among the best vehicles for sale in the luxury compact class.

The all new 430i Gran Coupe retails for $45,200, while the 4 Series coupe starts at $45,800, and the 4 Series convertible starts at $53,300. You get a lot of luxury appointments, with 20 options included, in the base window sticker price. To prove that point, this week BMW sent me a 2022 430i Gran Coupe, to test drive and review.

The 430i Gran Coupe window sticker starts at $45,200. The extra cost options on the press car are: the metallic paint for $550, the Oyster Vernasca leather interior for $1,450, the dynamic handling package for $2,450, the shadowline exterior black trim package for $400, the M sport package for $3,550, the parking assistance package for $700, and the premium package for $2,000.

The total MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $995 destination charge, minus the $995 power seats deletion credit, came to $56,300. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the total purchase price came to: $63,338. As this is a luxury compact sport sedan with several M sport package upgrades, it is a very impressive car to drive everyday. With quick acceleration, a smooth ride, excellent braking, and all the comfort and luxury of cars costing thousands of $$$ more.

The 430i Gran Coupe is powered by a 2.0L liter twin turbocharged 4 cylinder 16 valve gas engine that makes 255 HP horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Then it’s bolted to an 8 speed M Sport automatic transmission routed to the rear wheels with dynamic driving control, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, dynamic brake control and dynamic cornering control.

The car also has M Sport variable steering, an M Sport differential, and has the M Sport brakes with bright red painted calipers on all 4 wheels. The 430i Gran Coupe accelerates to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds, and tops out at a maximum speed of 155 mph.

Comfort starts with a heated leather covered steering wheel, heated front seats, ambient lighting, a Apple CarPlay and Android Auto premium audio system with SiriusXM radio, remote engine start, multi zone climate control, front sport seats, a power glass moonroof, rain sensing windshield wipers, and a wireless charging pad.

The M Sport package upgrades to an adaptive front suspension system, satin aluminum exterior trim, 19” M styled bi-colored wheels, aluminum tetragon interior trim, an M style steering wheel, power folding and automatic dimming side mirrors, auto dimming rear mirror, variable sport steering, a SenseTec dashboard, live cockpit pro with navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot, enhanced USB ports with Bluetooth, connect drive services, and a connected professional driving package featuring real time traffic, available on street parking, and BMW remote services.

To be environmentally easy on the planet this 430i model gets 25 MPG city, 34 MPG highway, and 28 MPG in combined driving. The greenhouse gas rating is a 6, and the smog rating is a 7, both out of 10. All great numbers for a BMW M Sport luxury compact sedan with this amount of power, comfort, and handling.

Since this is a BMW we have to review the Ultimate Care program that comes with every new BMW. It is a compressive package that covers all maintenance items at no cost for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles of regular scheduled services. Oil changes, oil filters, cabin filters, air filters, spark plugs, brake fluid, and vehicle safety checks, are all at zero cost to you. It’s just BMW’s way of saying “Thank You” for buying a brand new BMW.

When you’re ready to buy a new luxury compact sport sedan, the 2022 BMW 430i Gran Coupe should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s one of the best luxury compact sport sedans for sale today. Call, click or visit your local BMW dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the 2022 430i Gran Coupe.

The sharp design and compelling power of the BMW 430i Gran Coupe promises an unforgettable presence. And remember that the base price for a new 430i starts at only $42,200. BMW - The Ultimate Driving Machine.
