Home runs key in Cardinals' victory

Rookie Nolan Gorman hit a go-ahead, tworun homer, fellow rookie Andre Pallante got his first big league win and the host St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Diego Padres 6-3 on Monday.

Paul Goldschmid­t also hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals.

Gorman, a 22-year-old who was the 19th overall pick in the 2018 amateur draft, homered on a changeup from Nick Martinez (2-3) for a 2-1 lead in the third inning.

Pallante, a 23-year-old right-hander, allowed one run and five hits over 3 1/3 innings of relief with five strikeouts and no walks.

Goldschmid­t hit his 11th home run of the season, a seventh-inning drive off Steven Wilson that was his fifth in seven games. Goldschmid­t is batting .352 with a 21-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in a careerhigh 35 consecutiv­e games.

TIGERS 7, TWINS 5 >> Jonathan Schoop became the third player from Curaçao with 1,000 major league hits and finished a homer shy of the cycle, helping Detroit beat visiting Minnesota.

Schoop, in his 10th big league season, singled in the third, doubled in the fifth for his 1,000th hit and tripled leading off the seventh.

Schoop joined Andruw Jones (1,933) and Andrelton Simmons (1,163 through Sunday) as players from Curaçao with 1,000 hits. BREWERS 7, CUBS 6, GAME 1 >> Luis Urías lined a three-run homer into the basket in left-center to break a seventh-inning tie, and Milwaukee held on to beat Chicago at Wrigley Field.

The Brewers trailed 4-2 before Tyrone Taylor's two-run homer in the sixth off Matt Swarmer tied the game.

ROCKIES 7, MARLINS 1 >> Pinch-hitter Yonathan Daza doubled home three runs in the bottom of the seventh, helping Colorado top Miami.

The game also included the longest homer of the season in the MLB, a 496-foot shot in the second from Miami's Jesús Sánchez. It reached the third deck concourse at Coors Field.

Rockies starter Ryan Feltner (1-1) got his first big-league win, going seven innings and allowing four hits while striking out six and walking one.

GUARDIANS 7, ROYALS 3 >> Andrés Giménez hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning off rookie Collin Snider, sending Cleveland to a win over visiting Kansas City.

José Ramírez hit his 13th homer and drove in three more runs for the Guardians, raising his major league-leading total to 51 RBIs.
