Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in the April shooting death of an Elk Grove man in the city's Evergreen neighborhood, according to police and court records.

The shooting was reported at about 7:15 a.m. April 2 in the 1900 block of Aborn Road, which is the location of a popular Asian shopping center anchored by Maxim Market.

Responding officers found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound; he died at the scene. He was later identified as 23-year-old Elk Grove resident Tommy Chac.

On Friday, San Jose police announced the arrests of 38-year-old San Jose resident Johnson Tran Nguyen and 33-year-old San Jose resident Henry Nguyen in connection with Chac's death. An SJPD news release stated that the two men were arrested May 18. Charging records also list an Austin, Texas, residence for Henry Nguyen.

The criminal complaint filed May 20 charged both men with murder in Chac's death, with charging enhancements for using firearms.

Additional details were not immediately available. A police investigative summary that typically accompanies murder charges has been sealed in the court system, records show.

But the complaint also includes a second, separate set of allegations against Johnson Nguyen, who was charged with attempted murder and assault with a firearm on allegations that he shot and wounded another man last summer.

Those charges stem from a June 7, 2021 attack at a Vietnamese cafe in San Jose in which Johnson Nguyen is accused of shooting a man in the leg.

Both defendants are being held without bail in the Santa Clara County Main Jail, according to jail records. They were arraigned last week and their next scheduled court appearance is June 29.
