Curry is lauded from near, far
James leads uproar of praise heaped on star
Steve Kerr called it “stunning.” Draymond Green said it was “absolutely incredible.” Klay Thompson ranked it as “probably No. 1.”
They were talking about Steph Curry's performance Friday night in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Playing on a bad foot, Curry had 43 points and 10 rebounds.
“I don't know what you can even say besides 43 and 10,” said Jordan Poole, lost for words, “because 43 and 10 is crazy, especially in the NBA Finals.”
LeBron James said it was “insane.” Joel Embiid used the word “amazing.” CJ McCollum called Curry “a bad boy.” Dwyane Wade called him something that can't be put in print, complimentary though it was.
All of this was happening on social media as Curry was willing the Warriors to victory, carrying them to a 107-97 road win that evened their best-of-7 series against Boston at 2-2.
“Everybody keeps talking about what Steph ain't. Let's talk about what he is,” Wade wrote on Twitter, punctuating the thought with the words that cannot be shared here.
James replied to Wade: “FACTS!!! “THEY” will try to do anything in their powers to not acknowledge how “DIFFERENT he is! It's Rare and rare is not liked & appreciated.”
Wade took it a step further on Instagram: “Expanding the Mount Rushmore and making room for this bad (expletive) is the only conversation that should be going around about Wardell Stephen Curry.”
Curry was so good Friday night that Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper named him player of the game -- for the Giants after their victory over the Dodgers.
Green summed up what Curry did for the Warriors.
“Put us on his back. Willed us to win. Muchneeded win. Game we had to have. Came out and showed why he's one of the best players to ever play this game, and why this organization has been able to ride him to so much success. It's absolutely incredible.”
Thompson, Curry's backcourt running mate since 2011, was asked to rank this performance.
“I think probably No. 1,” he said. “I mean, this was nearly a must-win game, and to go out there and shoot as efficiently as he did, and grab 10 rebounds. ... You know, the things he does we kind of take for granted from time to time, but to go out there and put us on his back, I mean, we got to help him out on Monday.”
And where did Curry rank his performance?
“I can't rate my performances,” he said. “Just win the game.”
