-

Yu Darvish pitched a season-high eight innings of five-hit ball, Manny Machado hit a tiebreaking single and Eric Hosmer had a two-run double to cap a three-run eighth as the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 Monday night.

Darvish (6-3), pitching at Wrigley Field for the first time since the Cubs traded him to the Padres on Dec. 29, 2020, didn’t allow a runner past second base after Yan Gomes hit a home run in the second.

The Padres (38-24) won for the fifth time in their last seven games. The Cubs (23-37) have lost seven consecutive games.

Cubs left-hander Justin Steele pitched seven innings of one-run ball, however, the Padres pounced on Rowan Wick (1-2) in the eighth. BRAVES 9, NATIONALS 5 >> Atlanta won its 12th straight game by winning at Washington, but the Braves lost All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies to a broken left foot.

Dansby Swanson hit one of Atlanta’s seasonhigh five homers and drove in four runs. Marcell Ozuna and Adam Duvall launched back-toback homers for the Braves.

The stretch is Atlanta’s best since it won 14 consecutive games from July 26 to Aug. 9, 2013.

Michael Harris hit his first career homer and Travis d’Arnaud also went deep for Atlanta.

Albies fell on his way out of the batter’s box on a groundout to shortstop in the fifth inning. He exited the game, and the team later announced he has a fractured left foot. PHILLIES 3, MARLINS 2 >> Rhys Hoskins hit a game-ending RBI double in the ninth inning to lift Philadelphia over Miami.

Hoskins’ two-out hit off Anthony Bass (1-3) scored Matt Vierling and capped a Phillies rally from a 2-1 hole in the seventh.

The Phillies have won 10 of 11 games. The Marlins led 2-1 and were in control behind ace Sandy Alcantara, who walked two runners to open the eighth. He got J.T. Realmuto to ground into a double play but was then yanked.

Steven Okert promptly gave up a tying single on the first pitch to Didi Gregorius. CARDINALS 7, PIRATES 5 >> Paul Goldschmidt hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh and Dylan Carlson added a three-run blast in a five-run sixth to help St. Louis rally past visiting Pittsburgh.

Brendan Donovan added a two-run double for St. Louis, which rallied from a 5-0 deficit. The Pirates have lost seven straight games. Goldschmidt broke a 5-all tie with his 13th homer off reliever Chris Stratton (3-3).

BLUE JAYS 11, ORIOLES 1 >> Alek Manoah pitched six shutout innings, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered and had three RBIs, and Toronto beat visiting Baltimore.

Santiago Espinal drove in three runs as the Blue Jays pounded out a season-high 19 hits.

Manoah (8-1) allowed one hit, Jorge Mateo’s leadoff single in the third. He walked one and struck out seven.
