Man barricaded himself with wife against her will, authorities said
CAMPBELL >> Police arrested five people Tuesday on suspicion of child endangerment after a man barricaded himself in a residence with his wife against her will, according to authorities.
Police were called about 10:16 a.m. to a home on the 100 block of West Rincon for a mental health crisis, according to a Campbell Police Department news release. As officers arrived, a man took his wife into the residence and held her against her will in a bedroom.
Authorities found two people inside a car in the garage with multiple children, police said. Officers tried to get the people to leave the vehicle but they refused. Both adults were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and resisting arrest. The children were safely removed and placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
When Campbell police tried to speak with the barricaded man, he told them he wanted to hurt himself and wasn't going to let his wife leave the apartment. After seven hours of negotiation, the man peacefully surrendered, released his wife and left the building.
Police searched the residence after the standoff ended and found a man hiding in the attic, according to authorities. The man was on parole for burglary and had a warrant out for violating his parole, as well as two outstanding felony warrants for burglary, child abuse and second-degree robbery.
All five adults were booked on suspicion of child endangerment based on their behavior during the incident and the “dangerous drug environment” the children were placed in, according to police.
