Profar has four hits as Padres sweep D'backs

Jurickson Profar had four hits, drove in two runs and scored twice for the San Diego Padres, who jumped on Madison Bumgarner early in a 10-4 victory against the Arizona Diamondbac­ks on Wednesday for a three-game sweep.

Jorge Alfaro, whose walk-off single in the 10th inning Tuesday night gave the Padres a 3-2 win, hit a solo homer in the sixth. Rookie José Azocar fell a home run short of the cycle in his first career three-hit game.

Padres All-Star slugger Manny Machado missed his third straight game with a sprained left ankle, but manager Bob Melvin returned after missing 11 games while in the COVID protocols.

Bumgarner (3-8) got his 2,000th career strikeout but otherwise it was a tough day for the 32-year-old left-hander. The Padres led 4-0 after the first inning and 6-0 after the second to hand MadBum his fifth loss in six starts.

DODGERS 8, REDS 4 >> Freddie Freeman homered and drove in two runs and Los Angeles Dodgers extended its winning streak against Cincinnati this season to six games. Freeman, who tied a season high with five RBIs in the series opener on Tuesday, has seven RBI in the series.

BLUE JAYS 9, WHITE SOX 5 >> Bo Bichette hit a grand slam and Alejandro Kirk homered for the second straight game, leading Ross Stripling and Toronto over injury-riddled Chicago. Bichette's second career slam capped a fiverun fourth inning as the Blue Jays avoided a three-game series sweep.

ASTROS 5, METS 3 >> Yordan Alvarez homered twice off Carlos Carrasco as Houston jumped on him early and held on for the win over New York. Alvarez, who also homered Tuesday night, now has 21 this season. The 24-yearold Alvarez leads all players with a 1.064 OPS and has hit nine homers in his last 20 games. RANGERS 4, PHILLIES 2 >> Brad Miller hit a tworun single against his former team and Texas beat Philadelph­ia for the ninth time in a row to hand Zack Wheeler his first loss in two months.

MARLINS 7, ROCKIES 4 >> Pablo López allowed one unearned run in seven solid innings and Garrett Cooper, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jorge Soler hit home runs as Miami beat Colorado. ALSO >> The Los Angeles Angels have optioned Reid Detmers to the minors just six starts after the rookie left-hander threw a nohitter. The Angels assigned Detmers to TripleA Salt Lake a day after he made his sixth consecutiv­e winless appearance since his no-hitter against Tampa Bay on May 10. Pitcher Max Fried won his salary arbitratio­n case against the World Series champion Atlanta Braves and was given his $6.85 million request instead of the team's $6.6 million offer . ... Former Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Lorenzo Cain has cleared waivers and is now a free agent. ... San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin returned Wednesday after being sidelined by COVID-19 protocols for 11 games.
