You Are What You Drive — A Bottom Line Review

The Bottom Line: What is a Silverado? A Silverado is a full size pickup truck built and sold by the Chevrolet Sales Division of GM General Motors. Chevrolet has had a pickup truck in its lineup since 1930. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium duty trucks.

The Chevrolet Silverado has long been a popular choice among pickup truck owners, selling around 12 million vehicles over the years. Today there are only 6 makes of full size pickup trucks in America, and they are: the Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ford F Series, Dodge Ram, Toyota Tundra and the Nissan Titan. The yearly sales of these full size trucks are right around 3 million units, worth Billions of dollars in profits, plus bragging rights. Today the Chevy Silverado is the number one selling full size pickup truck in California, and number two in pickup truck sales in the entire United States.

This week Chevy sent me a 2022 Chevy Silverado LT Crew Cab Z71 Trail Boss 4WD Diesel full size short bed pickup truck to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this model is $52,000. The options on the test truck are: the LT Trail Boss Premium package for $4,000, the Duramax 3L liter turbo diesel engine for $2,590, a power sunroof for $995, a set of front bucket seats with a center console for $620, adaptive cruise control for $500, the multiflex tailgate for $445, and the bed view camera for $250.

The MSRP manufactures suggested retail price, including the $1,695 destination charge, minus the $25 heated steering wheel delete credit and the $500 LT Trail Boss discount, came to: $62,570. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the total out the door and in your driveway purchase price came to: $70,392. At just over $70 Grand for a pickup truck that’s not chump change, but you do get a lot of truck for your hard earned cash.

To start with this truck has the Duramax 3L liter Turbo Diesel engine that not only gives you a highly efficient truck, but it is also perfectly suited for off road adventurers with its powerful 460 lb-ft of torque and best in class 277 HP horsepower. The engine is bolted to a 10 speed automatic transmission, then routed to a 4WD traction system, thru a 2 speed transfer case, and into an auto locking rear differential. This driveline is part of the Z71 off road package that comes with a factory 2” lift kit with monotube shocks, skid plates, hill decent control, and HD heavy duty air filters.

The LT Trail Boss premium package includes: a universal home remote, a rear sliding power window, tow hitch guidance with hitch view, trailer brake controller, a trailing app, a Bose Premium sound system, HD surround vision, a trailer camera, trailer side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic braking, rear pedestrian alert, perimeter lighting, the Trail Boss leather interior package, rear 60/40 folding seats with seat back and under seat storage, a ChevyTec spray in bedliner, and rear wheelhouse liners.

Interior comfort is the best with dual zone climate control, front heated bucket seats with a center console, 10 way power drivers seat, steering wheel audio controls, Z71 all weather floor liners, a 13.4” HD color touch screen with AM/FM Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12.3” digital driver information center screen, OnStar services, SirusXM Radio, 120 volt power outlets, keyless entry, open, lock and start, push button start, remote start, and a check the rear seat reminder alert.

This truck has more than enough toys to keep you comfortable and entertained for a quick run to Home Depot, or a long road trip across the country, and you get to see the USA in your Chevrolet.

The Chevy lineup of Silverado special edition trucks offer the distinctive style you want, and the powerful capability you expect. So, when you’re ready to buy a new full size pickup truck, the 2022 Chevy Silverado should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s at the top of the charts in pickup truck sales in California.

Call, click or visit your local Chevy dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the 2022 Silverado pickup truck. And remember that the base price for a new Silverado starts at only $34,600. Chevrolet Find New Roads.
