Struggling Sabres get right with rout of Kings

-

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 33 shots for his fourth career shutout and Jordan Greenway scored twice and added an assist to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 7-0 rout of the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.

Rasmus Dahlin, JJ Peterka and Alex Tuch had a goal and assist apiece to help the Sabres snap a three-game home skid in which they combined to score three times. The seven goals were the most by Buffalo since a 9-3 win over Toronto on Dec. 21.

The Kings were flat and sloppy through most of an outing in which they provided little support for goalie David Rittich, who finished with 12 saves. The seven goals against were a season high for the Kings who entered the day having allowed 127 goals, the second-fewest in the NHL.

Coming off a 4-0 win over Edmonton in interim coach Jim Hiller's debut on Saturday, Los Angeles fell back into the inconsistencies that led to the team firing Todd McLellan. L.A. dropped to 4-9-6 in its past 19.

LIGHTNING 3, BRUINS 2, SO >> Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 36 shots and three more in the shootout, and Brayden Point scored the only goal of the shootout to lead Tampa Bay over Boston. Brad Marchand had a pair of assists in his 1,000th career NHL game — all of them for Boston.

MAPLE LEAFS 4, BLUES 1 >> Bobby McMann registered the first hat trick of his NHL career as host Toronto defeated St. Louis.

AVALANCHE 6, CAPITALS 3 >> Artturi Lehkonen had two goals and two assists, and his line led the way as Colorado ended a four-game losing streak. SENATORS 6, BLUE JACKETS 3 >> Brady Tkachuk recorded the second hat trick of his career to lead Ottawa.

CANADIENS 5, DUCKS 0 >> Nick Suzuki had two goals and an assist as Montreal cruised past Anaheim. The red-hot Suzuki extended his point streak to a careerhigh eight games.

NOTES >> Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly was suspended five games for cross-checking Senators forward Ridly Greig in the final seconds of the teams' game over the weekend. Rielly took exception to Greig firing a slap shot into an empty net with 5.1 seconds left Saturday to make it 5-3 Senators. He cross-checked Greig in the head and left shoulder. Rielly will forfeit $195,313 in salary.
