History for Wemby in Spurs' loss to Lakers

-

Victor Wembanyama made NBA history, joining an exclusive club by posting a 5x5 stat line.

The French rookie filled up the box score during his San Antonio Spurs' 123118 defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, finishing with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks in just 31 minutes.

He became the 15th player to log a 5x5 stat line where players record at least five points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in a single game and Wembanyama became the youngest to achieve the feat.

According to the NBA, the star rookie, at 20 years and 50 days old, broke the previous record of 22 years and 288 days set by Andrei Kirilenko since the league began tracking steals and blocks in 1973-74.

The 7-foot-4 Wembanyama is seen as the future of the NBA and he faced off against one of the greats of the league in LeBron James, who was in awe of Wembanyama's abilities.

“That kid is SPECIAL!!” he wrote on X formerly known as Twitter .

Wembanyama wasn't much interested in talking about any individual stats.

“To me, it's secondary. Hopefully in the future we can look back and see this as a good performance, but as of today, I can't be satisfied in a loss,” Wembanyama said.

BUCKS' RIVERS, BEVERLEY RETURN TO PHILLY >> Former Sixers coach Doc Rivers and former Philadelphia guard Patrick Beverley, now with the Bucks, face their old team in Philly today.

Rivers is back after his penchant for playoff collapses cost him his job at the end of last season. The 76ers fired Rivers after a third straight playoff exit in the second round.

After a short stint as an ESPN analyst, the Bucks hired Rivers to take over for Adrian Griffin, who was fired in late January after only 43 games.

It's been a rocky few weeks for Rivers. The Bucks haven't played at a championship level since the coaching change.

Beverley was months into his one-year deal with the Sixers when he was sent to the Bucks at the trade deadline. His feelings hurt, Beverley took several digs at the Sixers on his podcast. Notably, Beverley said everyone wanted to win in Milwaukee and: “It's not about stats. It's not about numbers here. It's not about who gets the ball.”
