NBA investigating Porter as part of gambling probe

-

The NBA has opened an investigation into Toronto two-way player Jontay Porter amid gambling allegations, a person with knowledge of the probe told the AP Monday night.

ESPN first reported the investigation, which it said included Porter's performance in games on Jan. 26 and March 20. In both games, Porter played briefly before leaving citing injury or illness; he played 4 minutes and 24 seconds against the Los Angeles Clippers in the first of those games, then played 2:43 against Sacramento in the second game.

In both cases, he did not come close to hitting the prop-wager lines for points, rebounds and 3-pointers that bettors could play. ESPN said the props surrounding Porter for the Clippers game were 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists; he finished with no points, three rebounds and one assist. For the Kings game, they were around 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds; Porter finished that game with no points and two rebounds.

Porter was away from the Raptors for Monday's home game against Brooklyn, citing personal reasons.

The 24-year-old Porter, the brother of Denver forward Michael Porter, is averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 26 games.

CAVALIERS 115, HORNETS 92 >> Evan Mobley scored 17 points, Jarrett Allen added 17 and 13 rebounds and Cleveland bounced back from an embarrassing loss at Miami 24 hours earlier by beating Charlotte.

Mobley also had a career-high eight assists and seven rebounds in only 25 minutes. It was his second game back after he was sidelined for nine by a sprained ankle.

The Cavs were blown out by 37 on Sunday by the Heat, who were up 45 at one point. The loss seemed to be rock bottom for a tired Cleveland team dealing with injuries and sliding backwards in the Eastern Conference standings.

NETS 96, RAPTORS 88 >> Dennis Schroder scored 19 points against his former team, Trendon Watford had 11 of his season-high 19 points in the second quarter and Brooklyn snapped a six-game losing streak by beating the short-handed Raptors at Toronto. Mikal Bridges scored 13 points and Jalen Wilson added 12 as the Nets won for the first time since March 10 at Cleveland.

The Raptors have lost 11 straight and are winless since a home victory over Charlotte on March 3. KNICKS 124, PISTONS 99 >> Donte DiVincenzo made a franchise-record 11 3-pointers and scored a careerbest 40 points, leading New York to a rout of visiting Detroit. DiVincenzo broke the Knicks' single-game record of 10 that was held by J.R. Smith and Evan Fournier, and moved into third in the NBA in 3-pointers made this season.

HAWKS 120, CELTICS 118 >> De'Andre Hunter scored 24 points, including a clinching 3-pointer with 9.2 seconds remaining, and a patchedtogether Atlanta lineup rallied from a 30-point deficit to stun NBA-leading Boston. The Celtics had won 20 of 22 and brought a ninegame winning streak into State Farm Arena — a run that certainly appeared in no jeopardy when Al Horford's 3-pointer put Boston up 68-28 with a little under 4 1/2 minutes left in the first half.
