Mary Ann Dillon

Mary Ann Dillon, 102, passed away in Carmel with her three children attending. The family is forever grateful to her daughter Deborah, who oversaw her care for 9 years. Mary Ann will be remembered as a peaceful, kind spirit.
Born in Pittsburg PA, her family moved to San Francisco where she attended Lowell High. She graduated Stanford University in 1943. She married classmate Donald Floyd Dillon before he served in the Navy until the end of WWII.
They moved to Irvington in 1954. Don served on the Fremont City Council (1962-1978) including a term as Mayor. Mary Ann was a founding member of what became the League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark and Union City. President from 1980-82, she was honored for 50 years of participation in 2007. She was affectionately known by her peers as the “Conscience of Fremont,” promoting libraries, starting 22 Girl Scout Troops, and promoting TriCity Ecology. She and Don were members of the Niles Congregational Church.
Meanwhile, their family business, Four Winds Growers, continued to grow. Mary Ann worked there part-time, raised her family and made time for many community activities.
Mary Ann and Don enjoyed 72 incredible years of marriage until his death in 2015. Love, work and knowledge were the wellsprings of their lives.
Mary Ann is survived by her three children and their spouses, Mary Helen (John), Deborah (Warren) and Don Jr. (Donna), six grandchildren: Toby and Galena Seeger, Aaron and Lexa Dillon, Chris and Jennifer Limacher, as well as numerous great grandchildren.
