Jennie Magid
August 17, 1930 - March 28, 2024

Known for her compassion, love of family and community, and the founder of the first nonprofit hospice in Santa Clara County, Hospice of the Valley. Jennie Magid passed away on March 28th, 2024, at the age of 93.
Born in Seattle to the Sephardic Jewish family of Morris and Victoria Rousso, she was the eldest of their three children. She grew up in Seattle and married Dr. George Magid, a renowned physician who founded The Diabetes Society. They had three children - Paul, Morgan, and Vicki.
George and Jennie moved to Saratoga/Los Gatos in 1962, where she lived for the remainder of her life. After her husband passed in 1975, Jenny worked at a local real estate company and later was hired by Tandem Computers where she created and led their corporate giving program.
In 1978, not long after her husband passed, Jennie created Santa Clara’s first hospice, known today as Hospice of the Valley saying “I had a lifeboat of support around me, and yet it wasn’t enough.” Since that time, Hospice of the Valley has served more than 15,000 people with the concept of death with dignity.
Jennie was fearless, courageous, and a brilliant and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, and friend, creating a network of love and compassion for everyone around her.
Beloved mother of son Paul Magid (Kristin), grandchildren Pesha and Rebecca; son Dr. Morgan Magid (Kathleen) and grandchildren Aaron (Brooke), Naomi, Jared (Emily), Laurel (Eddie), and Tisbe; daughter Vicki Barklow (who pre-deceased Jennie) son-in-law Blair Barklow and grandchildren Nico and Jules (Leah); and great-grandchildren Rivers and Wilde.
The family is grateful for the loving caregiving provided by Milika, Louina, Kava, Angela, Lakai, and Leva.
A Celebration of Jennie’s Life will be held at a later date to be announced. Donations in Jennie’s name may be made to The New Old Time Chautauqua, Cancer CAREPoint, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Montalvo.
