Granite Bay, CA (previously Monte Sereno)

Pat passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Granite Bay, California.

She was born on St. Patrick’s Day on a family farm in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, the oldest of 10 children born to Daniel and Emma Creally. She cared for her younger siblings, including baby Marguerite Rose who passed as an infant, leading her to a career in nursing. After high school, Pat moved to Kingston, Ontario to study nursing at the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital. After starting her career in Jacksonville, Florida, she travelled to Detroit where she met her future husband, Ed Malysz.

Pat relocated to California where she delivered twins Ed and Cathy and a year later son Marty. In Fullerton California she enjoyed raising her family, working part time as a registered nurse for local physicians, volunteering as the school nurse and continuing her love of gardening.

She moved to Los Gatos/Monte Sereno area in 1972 where she built a life around St Mary’s church, served for more than 20 years as a registered nurse for Kaiser Permanente Orthopedics and maintained phenomenal gardens and fruit trees. Everyone remembers her as the neighborhood mom making hams, the best mashed potatoes and homemade cookies, and delivering healthy doses of love and support to all. She also enjoyed cruising the world with Ed to many faraway places.

Pat is survived by children Ed (Mary) and Cathy O’Brien (Doug) and Marty (Amy) and grandchildren Kevin, Danny and Matt O’Brien and Joe, Emma, Kenet and Anna Malysz. Affectionately called Tish growing up, Pat is survived by her siblings Mary Lou, Eleanor, Gerry, John, and Gene. Pat was predeceased by her sisters Joanne and Marguerite and brothers Dan and Joe.

She is remembered as a kind and gentle soul who never raised her voice to anyone, loved her children above all else and always welcomed a new face with a smile even to her last day.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday April 19th at 11am at St. Mary’s Church in Los Gatos followed by a reception in her honor.
