School security increases after threat

School officials alerted students and parents on Monday about the post and assured them that while no real danger was present, threats against the school are taken seriously.

LOWER POTTSGROVE >> Pottsgrove High School increased security Wednesday morning because of a threat made on social media.

Lower Pottsgrove police have been addressing a threat made by a juvenile student on Facebook Monday morning concerning a bomb at Pottsgrove High School. Though it was determined that the school was not in any danger, police informed the public that the matter was being handled and that an investigat­ion was launched immediatel­y upon receiving word of the threat.

“The threat was immediatel­y addressed and the suspect was identified as a student who was not on location. The student and his parent cooperated fully with the investigat­ion and provided details that assisted school staff and investigat­ors to determine no imminent threat existed,” read the post.

Lower Pottsgrove police stated Wednesday the anxiety about these types of incidents, perpetuate­d by recent violence at schools across the country, encouraged themto increase security at the school Wednesday morning.

Police stated that because the incident involves a juvenile and the situation is still under investigat­ion, no further details involving the incident will be released.
