Man arrested for assaulting girlfriend

BIRDSBORO >> A Birdsboro man has been arrested after allegedly attacking his girlfriend.

Jason Jeremy Ott, 34, of Furnace Street, has been charged after police say he allegedly beat the victim and threatened her with a knife.

The victim told police that on Feb. 4 she had come home from work and entered her apartment where she was met by Ott who grabbed her by the throat and knocked her to the floor. He then allegedly started beating the victim’s head on the floor and at one point held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.

The victim stated that Ott had accused the victim of cheating on him, head butted her and took her purse and phone to prevent her from calling police, according to court documents. He also tried to prevent her escape by placing a couch in front of the door.

The victim was able to report the incident after Ott went to work the next day.

She was evaluated at Reading Hospital in West Reading for several injuries.

Ott is being chargedwit­h aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, terroristi­c threats and simple assault. He was arraigned on Feb. 5 before District Judge Paul J. Hadzick and is scheduled for a preliminar­y hearing on Feb. 23 before District Judge David E. Glass. He was unable to post the set $50,000 cash bail and is being held at Berks County Prison.

The victim stated that Otthad accused the victim of cheating on him, head butted her and took her purse and phone to prevent her from calling police, according to court documents.
