Police arrest robbery suspect

The victim and the suspect engaged in a struggle until the suspect produced what appeared to be a handgun and threatened to kill the victim.

POTTSTOWN >> Police arrested a man today after he allegedly robbed a victim at gunpoint.

Markeevis Hamilton, 27, of Pottstown was apprehende­d and charged by Pottstown Police Wednesday after a reported robbery took place in the borough.

Police said in a press release Wednesday afternoon that they responded to the area of South Evans Street and South Street for a report of a pedestrian robbery. The victim was approached by one male suspect who was on foot. The victim and the suspect engaged in a struggle until the suspect produced what appeared to be a handgun and threatened to kill the victim. The victim backed away when the gun was shown, police said.

The victim escaped uninjured and was able to contact police.

The suspect was later located near the scene of the robbery and officers ended up pursuing the suspect on foot. Once he was apprehende­d behind 67 South Evans Street, the suspect was identified as Hamilton.

Hamilton has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault and theft. He was arraigned on Feb. 10 before District Judge Edward C. Kropp and is scheduled for a preliminar­y hearing on Feb. 25 again before Kropp. He was unable to post the set $100,000 cash bail and is being held at Montgomery County Correction­al Facility.
