Walk along the river
POTTSTOWN >> Join The Mercury Mile on noon Wednesday and walk down by the river as part of a series in partnership with The Schuylkill River Heritage Area.
The afternoon stroll is the first of three community walk and talk events that will be featured along the Schuylkill River. Come out and listen to a short five-minute presentation on different healthy topics such as fitness and food. After the short talk, there will be about a mile walk along the trail. Everyone’s invited including children and even pets.
The walk and talk series will begin from Riverfront Park at noon on the last Wednesday of the month until October. The park is located near the Schuylkill River Heritage Area building and the address is 140 College Drive. Participants are to meet near the park’s pavilion area. This week, Pottstown YMCA Wellness Director Jennifer Gaj will give a short talk about a fitness subject then everyone will get some active steps in by doing a short outdoor walk.
The next walk in the series will be on Sept. 28 when registered dietitian Jessica Garnett will discuss nutrition. On Oct. 26, learn about growing herbs indoors from Mosaic Pottstown garden manager Laura Washington for the last walk in the “Down by the River” series.
The social walk is meant to allow area residents to come together and learn about local events and opportunities. The Schuylkill River Heritage Area is a national and state heritage area in southeastern Pennsylvania. The heritage area’s boundaries cover the Schuylkill watershed in the counties of Schuylkill, Berks, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia.
