Nuclear power plant holds open house Wednesday
LIMERICK >> Exelon Nuclear’s Limerick Generating Station will host its annual Community Information Night from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Local residents are invited to attend to learn more about the role nuclear power plays in supplying electricity to Pennsylvania and the benefits it provides to the tri-county area.
Visitors can tour the main control room simulator to see firsthand how Limerick operators provide electricity to two million homes and businesses.
The family-friendly event will be held at the main facility located at 3146 Sanatoga Road.
Station employees will be on hand to educate visitors on station operations, engineering practices, environmental stewardship, industrial safety, radiological safety, site security, emergency preparedness and much more.
Petrucci’s Ice Cream will provide free treats and the Linfield Fire Department will showcase some of its equipment.
“Community Information Night is a great opportunity to see a working nuclear station up close and meet the men and women who are dedicated to running it safely and reliably,” said Rick Libra, Limerick Site Vice President. “We look forward to hosting this event each year and sharing our commitment to nuclear safety and environmental stewardship with our neighbors.”
Visitors should enter the plant at the intersection of Evergreen and Sanatoga Roads and park in the upper parking lot, which is located just past the cooling towers.
A bus will transport visitors to the simulator for those interested in a tour. If you have questions or special needs, please contact Dana Melia at (610)-718-3025 or dana.melia@exeloncorp.com.
Community Information Night is part of Limerick’s annual public information and outreach campaign, designed to engage and educate the public on station operations. Limerick employees continue to be an active part of the Pottstown area by volunteering, hosting tours, visiting schools, appearing at community events and financially supporting dozens of civic organizations.
