Richard B. (Dick) Hacker, born in Spring City, PA to the late Leighton F. and Clara (nee Shellenber­ger) Hacker, and graduated from the Spring City High School in 1943 as class president.

He served in the Amphibious Force from April 1944 to June 1946 attaining the rate of RM2c, and remained in the US Naval Reserve. He graduated in 1949 from Millersvil­le State Teachers College, PA, and was the Editorin-Chief of the college newspaper “Snapper”. Was the Printing teacher at Langley Junior High School, Washington, DC from September 1949 to June 1951. In 1949, he was commission­ed an Ensign, and in June 1951 entered active duty in the U.S. Navy on the submarine, USS HALFBEAK (SS352) until August 1953.

He served as the Printing teacher at Jefferson Junior High School, Washington, DC from September 1953 to June 1956. He entered the Federal Civil Service at the Naval Gun Factory in September 1953, served in the NASA Headquarte­rs from 1958 to 1968; then the Department of Health and Human Services where he was the Director of Department­al Labor Relations, and retired January 1982. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a LCDR in 1975. After he retired from the civil service, was selfemploy­ed as an arbitrator and grievance examiner. He was a clerk with the Sears Regional Office until 1992, and then did sales for Gutter Covers of Maryland.

He was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Washington, DC, the church of Theodore Roosevelt in the Nation’s Capital, and was a former president of the consistory. After nine decades he converted to Catholicis­m and is a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, Rockville, Maryland. He was married to Ruth Alice Fallon of Danville, PA for more than sixtyfour years, had two sons, John (Mary) and Brian (Linda), three grandchild­ren Jessica Trivizas (Andrew), Tracy, Michelle, and two great grandsons, Demetri and Xavier Trivizas; all of whom are survivors. He is the brother of Leighton C. Hacker, Audubon, PA and the late Ruth Moore.

Friends are invited to call at the PUMPHREY’S BETHESDA-CHEV Y CHASE FUNERAL HOME, 7557 Wisconsin Ave, Bethesda, MD on Thursday, September 1 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church 1513 Dunster Road, Rockville, MD 20854 on Friday, September 2 at 11am. His burial with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
