Vance, Methacton top PJP in golf semifinal

Fresh off his third straight PAC Individual Golf Championsh­ip, Kyle Vance led Methacton to victory over Pope John Paul II Thursday in the PAC team golf semifinals.

Boys golf

METHACTON 193, POPE JOHN PAUL II 209 >> Kyle Vance picked up from where he left off earlier in the week, leading the pack in the Warriors’ Final Four playoff victory over the Golden Panthers at Skippack G.C.

Vance, who won the PAC’s individual tournament Monday, was low man with a 35. Teammate Dan Rieger followed with a 38, and he was followed in turn by 40s from Harvey Smith, Max Rennie and Connor McCaffrey.

PJP, the league’s third playoff seed, was led by J.T. Spina’s 37. Mike Limongelli followed with a 39.

Second seed Methacton will now play the winner of the Oct. 4 semifinal between first-seeded SpringFord and fourth-seeded Owen J. Roberts for the PAC title Oct. 6. The match will be played 2 p.m. at Gilbertsvi­lle Golf Club.

Girls volleyball

OWEN J. ROBERTS 3, NORRISTOWN 0 >> The Wildcats swept their PAC match with the Eagles by set scores of 25-23, 25-10 and 25-16.

Michelle Frank scored 10 kills, two aces and four digs to lead Roberts. Mikayla Johnson added seven kills and Kelly Brobst chipped in with one kill and three digs. METHACTON 3, PHOENIXVIL­LE 0 >> The Warriors swept their PAC match with the Phantoms by set scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-9.

Ashley Newman had 22 digs and 11 service points for Methacton, with Emma Eglinton adding 16 assists, two aces and seven digs. Carli Ginther (three kills, 10 assists, 2 aces, 1 dig), Lauren Stanley (seven kills), Hannah O’Donnell (seven digs, two aces, sixpoint serving run), Nicole Cooper (eight digs, one ace, six-point serving run) and Rainah Dunham (five kills, one ace) were other contributo­rs to the Methacton sweep. EXETER 3. DANIEL BOONE 1 >> The Eagles won their last two sets against the Blazers, 25-19 and 25-18, to come away with the Berks Conference victory. Exeter opened with a 25-6 victory in the first set, and Boone answered with a 25-22 triumph in the second.

Keri Kearns led the Blazers with six kills and five blocks. WEST-MONT 3, RENAISSANC­E 1>> The Wings won their last two sets with Renaissanc­e, 25-18 and 25-15, to break up their tie standing after the first two. West-Mont took the first 25-12 before Renaissanc­e scored a 25-22 win in the second.

Boys soccer

UPPER PERKIOMEN 1, BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS 1 >> The Indians and Bullets went into double OT before ending their non-league game in a tie.

Jackson Lill had seven saves for UP, including a game-saving stop on a penalty kick with 13 seconds left to play in the second overtime. NESHAMINY 3, SPRING-FORD 0>> Chase Rider, Jack McCourt and Joe Indelicato did the scoring for the Redskins in their non-league win over the Rams.

Kyle Allan gave SpringFord a four-save day in goal.

Girls soccer

OWEN J. ROBERTS 9, NORRISTOWN 0 >> Julia McHugh’s two-goal showing headed a balanced, potent offensive for the Wildcats in their PAC victory over the Eagles.

The remainder of Roberts’ scoring was split in equal measure between Mahogany Willis, McKenna Johnson, Mia Baumgartne­r, Danika Swech, Julia Daulton, Sophie Marks and Perri Bertolami. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 2, BARRACK HEBREW 2 >> Barrack was able to keep pace with the Panthers, ultimately forcing a tie outcome in their Tri-County League game.

Sasha Vasallo scored first for Perkiomen, only to see Barrack get the first-half equalizer from Shira Perloff. In the second half, Marina Fitzner gave the Panthers a lead that lasted only until Barrack’s Isabel Jacobson evened the score by converting a penalty kick.

Field hockey

SPRING-FORD 9, POTTSGROVE 0 >> Lexie Nugent led a first-half scoring surge that helped the Rams roll over the Falcons in PAC action.

Nugent scored her teams’ fourth and fifth goals while assisting Caroline Todd on the game-opener. Erin Wilson chipped in with two goals and an assist in the opening frame while Clare Kennedy added a goal and assist.

In the second half, Katelyn Crist (one assist), Kaitlyn Hennessey and Shannon Kennedy followed Wilson in scoring. Lexi Ciano needed to make just one save in goal to secure the shutout while Pottsgrove keeper Madalynn Mancini recorded 15.
