A woman working at a day spa allegedly offered to perform sexual acts for money on an undercover detective.

CUMRU TWP. >> Police have arrested a 44-year-old Berks County woman on charges that she agreed to perform sexual acts in exchange for money.

Maria Roleda Bey, 44, of 1151 Elm St., Reading, has been arrested on prostitution charges after police launched an investigation in response to community complaints.

The Berks County District Attorney’s Narcotics Unit and Cumru Police opened an investigation in January 2017 after police received complaints about possible prostitution and drug usage at Samantha’s Day Spa, 360 E. Wyomissing Ave., Cumru Township.

The facility is located in Stabon Pond Plaza business center.

According to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office, an undercover detective met with Bey on two separate occasions in February during the investigation.

While meeting with Bey inside Samantha’s Day Spa, Bey agreed to perform sexual acts on the detective in exchange for money.

Detectives obtained a search warrant on Feb. 14 for the spa to look for any items that could be used for prostitution.

At 3 p.m., Berks County Detectives and Cumru Police officers served the search warrant and arrested Bey.

Four other employees were also detained and later released.

During the search, police seized electronic equipment, numerous records and documents, cash believed to be the proceeds from the business and various items associated with the utilization and facilitation of prostitution.

Bey has been charged with promoting prostitution and related offenses. She was arraigned on Feb. 15 before District Judge Victor M. Frederick IV and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 27 before District Judge David L. Yoch.

Bail was set at $10,000 unsecured.
