Gene L. Shank, 76, formerly of Chester Springs, PA died on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in Pottstown, PA.
Born August 17, 1940 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Lester A. Shank and Elizabeth D. (Orndorff) Shank. Gene is survived by his wife Joanne H. (Baumhauer) Shank to whom he has been married since April of 1967.
He is also survived by his three children and seven grandchildren; daughter Sharon L. (Shank) Pogwist, wife of Ron Pogwist of Ephrata, PA; son Steven D. Shank, husband of Rose (Chieffo) Shank of Audubon, PA; son Gregory J. Shank, husband of Aimee (Ketring) Shank of Douglassville, PA; grandchildren, Kimberly, Christina, Kevin, Cory, David, Jocelyn, & Zachary.
Gene is one of seven siblings. He is survived by sisters, Doris (Shank) Varner; Bonnie (Shank) Little, wife of Bob Little; brothers, Lester Shank, husband of Shirley (Brunner) Shank; Garry Shank, husband of Florence (Book) Shank. He is predeceased by brothers Richard Shank, husband of Laura (Chritz) Shank and Billy Shank, husband of Marilyn (Schmidt) Shank.
Gene served in the United States Marines from January 6, 1959 through October 28, 1964. After his time in the Marines, Gene joined the police force and worked for both the West Chester and East Pikeland Police Departments. After leaving the police department, Gene became self employed as a financial advisor, working with the Franklin Life Insurance Company, later to be known as AIG.
On his time off, Gene could be found tending to his huge garden or cooking for a family gathering. Most of all, Gene loved spending time with his family and friends. Gene was loved by everyone that knew him. He will be sorely missed by all.
The family will receive family & friends from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, February 20, 2017, at St. Paul’s UCC Amityville, 1312 Old Swede Rd., Douglassville, PA with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Steven J. Simpson officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, N. Coventry Twp., Chester Co., PA.
