Gene L. Shank, 76, for­merly of Ch­ester Springs, PA died on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 15, 2017 in Pottstown, PA.

Born Au­gust 17, 1940 in Hager­stown, MD, he was the son of the late Lester A. Shank and El­iz­a­beth D. (Orn­dorff) Shank. Gene is sur­vived by his wife Joanne H. (Baumhauer) Shank to whom he has been mar­ried since April of 1967.

He is also sur­vived by his three chil­dren and seven grand­chil­dren; daugh­ter Sharon L. (Shank) Pog­wist, wife of Ron Pog­wist of Ephrata, PA; son Steven D. Shank, hus­band of Rose (Chi­effo) Shank of Audubon, PA; son Gre­gory J. Shank, hus­band of Aimee (Ketring) Shank of Dou­glassville, PA; grand­chil­dren, Kim­berly, Christina, Kevin, Cory, David, Jo­ce­lyn, & Zachary.

Gene is one of seven sib­lings. He is sur­vived by sis­ters, Doris (Shank) Varner; Bon­nie (Shank) Lit­tle, wife of Bob Lit­tle; broth­ers, Lester Shank, hus­band of Shirley (Brun­ner) Shank; Garry Shank, hus­band of Florence (Book) Shank. He is pre­de­ceased by broth­ers Richard Shank, hus­band of Laura (Chritz) Shank and Billy Shank, hus­band of Mar­i­lyn (Sch­midt) Shank.

Gene served in the United States Marines from Jan­uary 6, 1959 through Oc­to­ber 28, 1964. Af­ter his time in the Marines, Gene joined the po­lice force and worked for both the West Ch­ester and East Pike­land Po­lice De­part­ments. Af­ter leav­ing the po­lice de­part­ment, Gene be­came self em­ployed as a fi­nan­cial ad­vi­sor, work­ing with the Franklin Life In­sur­ance Com­pany, later to be known as AIG.

On his time off, Gene could be found tend­ing to his huge gar­den or cook­ing for a fam­ily gath­er­ing. Most of all, Gene loved spend­ing time with his fam­ily and friends. Gene was loved by ev­ery­one that knew him. He will be sorely missed by all.

The fam­ily will re­ceive fam­ily & friends from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 20, 2017, at St. Paul’s UCC Ami­tyville, 1312 Old Swede Rd., Dou­glassville, PA with the fu­neral ser­vice to fol­low at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Steven J. Simp­son of­fi­ci­at­ing.

In­ter­ment will be in Mt. Zion Ceme­tery, N. Coven­try Twp., Ch­ester Co., PA.
