2 women injured in Route 23 crash
SOUTH COVENTRY >> Two women were trapped inside their vehicle after it was struck by a vehicle that apparently failed to yield at a stop sign on Route 23.
The crash occurred Friday at 4:34 p.m. on Route 23 at Coventryville Road as the driver of a Volkswagen 2017 Golf Alltrack, identified as Wesley Noonan-Sessa, 28, of Pottstown, had been travelling south on Coventryville Road, police said.
The driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign before entering Ridge Road (Route 23). The vehicle then struck a 2006 Pontiac GR that had been travelling east on Ridge Road.
Police identified the driver of the Pontiac as Lorey Wiand, 56, of Woodbury, and her passenger as Karen Brown, 54, of Loysburg.

in the vehicle for about 45 minutes.
Both Wiand and Brown were transported to Reading Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen
was cited for careless driving and duties at a stop sign, state police said.
Assisting on the scene were West End and Friendship EMS, Ridge Fire Company and Lenny’s Towing.
The American Red Cross is calling for all eligible blood and platelet donors to make an appointment to give to help offset the weather-related shortfall in donations.
More than 100 Red Cross blood drives across the eastern United States were canceled due to extreme winter conditions. These cancellations resulted in a shortfall of nearly 4,500 blood and platelet donations on March 14 alone.
“The need for blood does not get a snow day,” said Alana Mauger, communications manager for the Penn Jersey Blood Services Region. “For those in storm affected areas, please come out to donate when travel is safe.”
