Donald M. ‘Don’ Skean, 81, of Mechanicsburg
Donald M. “Don” Skean, 81, of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Brandywine Assisted Living in Kennett Square, PA near his family. He was the husband of Loretta (Libricz) Skean, who passed away in 2015, with whom he spent 57 years of marriage.
Born in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of the late Stanley and Ruth (Minter) Skean, and brother of the late Sandra Perdicas.
Don graduated from Franklin and Marshall and received his Master’s in Geology from University of North Carolina, culminating in a geological engineering career including domestic and international highway design in South America, Africa and the Middle East. As a sergeant in the U.S. Army, he served in the Army Map Service division of the NSA. As a professional engineer he worked at PennDOT, Gannett Fleming, and TW Consultants.
He was a longtime member of the Harrisburg Area Geological Society, American Legion Post 109, VFW, The Mechanicsburg Club, West Shore Elks, Enola Sportsmen’s Club, Appalachian Sports Car Club and several bowling leagues. He enjoyed golfing, camping, automotive repair, extensive vegetable gardening, bowling, fishing and crabbing.
Don is survived by one son, Andrew Skean and his wife Jacqueline of Kennett Square; three grandchildren Andrea Stedeford, Kristin Mallory and Christopher Skean; and three great grandchildren Kaylee Mallory, Colton Stedeford and Paisley Mallory.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 27, 2017 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg with a viewing starting at 10:00 AM. Burial service will be held at Mechanicsburg Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the West Shore Elks.
