Drug, alcohol violations top weekly crime report

Eight incidents in the borough reported to police over the past week involved drug or alcohol violations.

POTTSTOWN >> Drug and alcohol violations were the leading crime in Pottstown over the past week.

According to crimemappi­ng. com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area, eight incidents over the past week have involved drug or alcohol violations. Five of those incidents were reported to be cases of drug possession occurring on West Sixth Street, the 200 block of Shoemaker Road, the 400 block of West Walnut Street, the 700 block of North Charlotte Street and the 400 block of High Street. One case of purchase of alcohol by a minor was reported on the 1500 block of East High Street along with two incidents of public drunkennes­s on South Hanover Street and the 400 block of East High Street.

Theft was reported three times since March 21 including a retail theft on the 200 block of Shoemaker Road and two thefts from buildings on the 300 block of East High Street and the 300 block of Chestnut Street.

Vandalism was also reported three times over the past week. Those incidents involved two cases of criminal mischief to buildings on Beech Street and the 100 block of North York Street and one case of criminal mischief to vehicles on the 100 block of Sunrise Drive.

Assault, harassment, fraud and vehicle break-ins were each reported once over the past week. An assault involving a firearm was reported on South Keim Street along with an attempted theft from a vehicle on the 200 block of West High Street. Harassment occurred on the 100 block of East High Street and fraud was reported on North Franklin Street.
