Marvin R. Yerger Sr., 89, of Lower Pottsgrove

Marvin R. Yerger Sr., 89, of Lower Pottsgrove Twp., Pottstown, loving and devoted husband of Lillian K. (Swavely) Yerger, died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Reading Medical Center.

Born in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of the late Lester R. Yerger and the late Hazel O’Keefe. Marvin worked as a skilled brick mason, was employed by Firestone for many years and worked for a local drafting firm. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army, proudly serving during WWII. Marvin was an avid race car fan and was actively involved with drag racing for many years. He could often be found in his garage at home where he enjoyed working on race cars.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 71 years is one son, Timothy L. Yerger, Blakeslee, PA; two grandchildren, Brian S. Yerger and his wife Jolene, Mooresville, NC; Beth A. Wife of Todd Lanphear, Reading; daughter-in-law, Dorothy A. Yerger, Pottstown; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Marvin R. Yerger Jr.; and one brother, Daniel Yerger.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Monday, April 3, 2017, at the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King St., Pottstown. Officiating will be Reverend Barry L. Moyer. Burial with military honors will be in Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick. There will be a viewing on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
