Student with weapons prompts lockdown
A student has been charged after he brought an air pistol and a knife to Daniel Boone High School on Wed.
UNION TWP. >> Daniel Boone Area High School was temporarily locked down Wednesday after a student came to school with weapons.
The student, a 15-yearold male who has not been named by authorities because of his age, allegedly entered the school carrying an airsoft gun and a knife, according to a statement posted by the high school. The airsoft gun resembles a semi-automatic pistol. The school was immediately locked down once it was discovered that the student had entered the building with the weapons.
State police from the Reading barracks said Wednesday they were notified by administrators that weapons had been brought into the building and that they had been made aware of the situation by students. Administrators told police that students reported being shown a black semi-automatic pistol while riding the bus to school. At the time administrators called police, the student’s location was not known but believed to be somewhere inside the school.
While police were on their way to the school, they were contacted by school officials again and were told that the student had been located. Police later discovered that the weapon in question was an airsoft gun. The stu-
dent was also found to be in possession of a folding knife.
When state police arrived, the student was taken into custody
and processed as a juveline at the Pennsylvania State Police Station at Reading for possession of a weapon on school property and simple assault.
The high school resumed operations shortly after the incident, and continued the day as scheduled.
State police are continuing to investigate.
On Monday, a report of a weapon at Reading Intermediate High School also prompted a brief lockdown. City police responded and found a BB gun.
