Run through The Hill
5K race benefits Hobart’s Run initiative
POTTSTOWN >> Runners of all ages are invited to race through The Hill School campus during the Hobart’s Ram 5K and 1-mile fun run on Sunday morning.
The Hobart’s Run initiative is a neighborhood revitalization project and covers about 600 parcels of land that surrounds The Hill School campus. Twila Fisher is the school’s manager of community and economic development. She was hired last year to work on the Horbart’s Run initiative with includes making the area safe and clean as well as promoting an inclusive community.
This week’s running event is meant to be a fundraiser for future programs of the initiative and bring the community together.
“There’s seems to be a strong running community in Pottstown so we thought it would just be a way to promote Hobart’s Run a little more and get the name out there,” Fisher said.
The race will begin at the pavilion near the William W. Hauser Track off of Beech Street, also known as the The Hill School Far Fields. The cost to register is $25. Registration begins 8 a.m. on Sunday and the race begins at 9 a.m. The route travels mostly through The Hill School campus with a portion going through the Hobart’s Run area.
Fisher said the race is professionally timed by Pretzel City Sports and that there are awards for top finishers.
“At this point, we have more medals than runners so it will be an easy race to win a medal,” she said.
There are different sponsorship levels for individuals and organizations that want to support the mission of Hobart’s Run. A sponsorship of $100 will receive a complimentary race registration, one of $250 will receive two complimentary registrations and the $500 level sponsorship will receive four complimentary race registrations.
Fisher said the proceeds of the race will go toward a façade improvement program and a homeowners incentive program in Hobart’s Run. The façade program would provide funds to homeowners and renters to make exterior improvements. The homeowners program will be an incentive for people to move into the Hobart’s Run area to help revitalize the neighborhood.
Fisher said both programs need to be approved before they become official. The Hobart’s Run initiative is in the process of becoming a recognized nonprofit organization with a governing board. Fisher said this should be done by June.
