Police say man crashed car after seeing spider in his lap
EPHRATA, PA. >> Police say a Pennsylvania man crashed his car into a utility pole because he thought there was a spider in his lap.
Ephrata Township police didn’t release the name of the man involved in the crash about 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Police say the man escaped injury, but his vehicle had to be towed.
1 killed after coal truck hits school bus
DERRY, PA. >> The coroner has been called after a coal truck and school bus crashed in western Pennsylvania.
Westmoreland County 911 dispatchers say no students were aboard the bus that was hit by the truck Monday about 7 a.m. on U.S. Route 22 in Derry Township. That’s about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh.
The dispatchers say one person has been killed, but didn’t say if that was the truck driver, the bus driver or someone else who may have been involved in the crash.
Toddler girl hospitalized after consuming methamphetamine
PINE GROVE, PA. >> Police say a toddler girl has been hospitalized after consuming methamphetamine in her Pennsylvania home, and her parents are facing child endangerment charges.
Police say the 22-monthold girl got into a bag of the drug and consumed some Sunday morning at her home in Wayne Township in Schuylkill (SKOOL’-kil) County.
She was flown to a hospital. Her condition hasn’t been released.
Troopers say a 26-yearold man and his 24-yearold girlfriend are responsible for endangering the girl. Online court records Monday show charges haven’t yet been filed.
Methamphetamine is highly addictive. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a methamphetamine overdose can lead to a stroke, heart attack or organ problems that can result in death.
Crews rescue 3 after canoe capsizes in rain-swollen river
BIRDSBORO, PA. >> Authorities say three people had to be rescued after their canoe capsized in a rainswollen river in eastern Pennsylvania.
Hikers crossing the Schuylkill River on a trail bridge saw the canoers and called 911 about noon Sunday. That happened in Union Township, Berks County, near Birdsboro.
The Birdsboro Union Fire Department responded and found three people hanging onto branches in the river.
Steve Dragon, a spokesman for the fire department, says the boaters weren’t badly injured but did take a risk trying to float down the rain-swollen river.
Dragon says the river is running “high and fast” after heavy rains in the last 10 days.
Coroner: Teen killed by shotgun blast at Pennsylvania home
MACUNGIE, PA. >> A corner says a teenager who died following a shooting in an eastern Pennsylvania home over the weekend was killed by a shotgun wound to the body.
The Lehigh county coroner’s office announced a finding on the cause of death following an autopsy Monday on the body of 17-year-old Chris Perez.
Coroner Scott Grim said a ruling on the manner of death is pending completion of an investigation and results of toxicology tests.
Authorities said Perez died Saturday afternoon at Lehigh Valley HospitalCedar Crest after he was shot at a Lower Macungie Township home.
District Attorney Jim Martin said investigators were still gathering details about exactly what happened, and no charges were immediately filed.
