Daniel Boone downs Conrad Weiser, secures first-ever girls lacrosse Berks Conference win

It’s been a long time coming for Daniel Boone.

Since the start of the Blazer program three seasons ago, the team hadn’t been able to find a Berks Conference win.

That all changed Thursday night as Daniel Boone ousted Conrad Weiser 7-6 to secure the program’s first-ever league win.

“This is only our third PIAA season and the girls, especially our five seniors, have worked hard for this victory,” Daniel Boone head coach Jen Armstrong said.

Makenzie Witzel finished with four goals and three assists with Ashley Bonetz adding a pair of goals and an assist in the victory, which effectivel­y snapped a 25game conference losing streak. Cameron Nicoline provided nine saves in net with two intercepti­ons and Ali Williams scored once.

three or more goals apiece, the Warriors held off the Indians in their PAC matchup.

Julie Byrne netted four goals to lead Methacton, which benefited from hat tricks by Jackie Cerchio, Alana Cardaci and Sydney Tornetta. Mackenzie Gebhardt had a game-high five goals for UP, with Hope Flack and Liz Fox adding two tallies each. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 20, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 12 >> Mikayla Matthews and Hannah Chiesa combined for a whopping 15 goals in leading the Panthers’ TriCounty League win over Collegium.

Matthews edged Chiesa out for game scoring honors, 8-7. Emalee Walsh had another pair of tallies to go along with her four assists.

Baseball

SPRING-FORD 13, POTTSTOWN 2 >> For the second straight night, the Rams dished out a no-hitter on their way to a Pioneer Athletic Conference win.

Jake Kelchner got the start and Ryne Moore went the final two frames during Spring-Ford’s no-hit win over Pottstown.

Offensivel­y, Spring-Ford racked up 16 hits as Sean McHugh (two RBIs), Mike Aquilante, Nick Price (two hits), Coy Walters (two hits, two RBIs), Nick Brauer, Tom Hughes (two hits) and Ryan Fitzpatric­k each hit doubles while Quinn McKenna had a triple and a pair of runs scored.

Chris Stone took the loss for Pottstown, giving way to nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits across 2-2/3 innings of work.

Conor Larkin no-hit Upper Merion to lead the Rams’ to a 10-0 win on Wednesday night. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 4, PHOENIXVIL­LE 2 >> Matt Szczesny drove in three of the Vikings’ runs to fuel their PAC victory over the Phantoms.

Brock Helverson got the pitching win for PV, which held Phoenixvil­le scoreless until the top of the seventh. Dylan Boyd, going 2-for-3 for the Vikes, was the game’s lone player with multiple hits. METHACTON 14, POTTSGROVE 2 >> The Warriors utilized an eight-run second inning on their way to a five-inning PAC win over the Falcons.

Ben Christian finished 2-for-2 with a run scored while Patrick O’Neill and Nick Wheeler each finished with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Josh Dubost earned the win on the mound, giving way to four hits and a pair of runs across four innings. Dean Fiorini and Blake Strain each knocked doubles in the loss for Pottsgrove. UPPER MERION 9, NORRISTOWN 1 >> Mike Hutchinson put together a three-RBI day to key the Vikings’ PAC victory over the Eagles.

Hutchinson went 3-for-4 to help UM close out Norristown by scoring six runs in its final three at-bats. Billy Davis got the pitching win with a complete game, scattering five hits and three walks while striking out six. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 16, WEST-MONT CHRISTIAN 0 >> Josh Cruz swung the hottest bat for the Panthers as they rolled over the Wings in a Tri-County League game halted after four innings by the “mercy rule.”

Cruz’s 4-for-4 effort featured three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored. Chris Pow, Nathaniel Urbina and Ian Diaz (double) each had pairs of RBI for Perkiomen (3-0, 9-1) while Ian Diaz, working two innings of one-hit, four-strikeout ball on the mound, got the win.

Softball

UPPER PERKIOMEN 6, SPRING-FORD 5 >> SpringFord’s furious comeback was thwarted by a play at the plate as Upper Perkiomen knocked off the Rams from the ranks of unbeaten in a PAC showing.

Taylor Lindsay swung the hot bat for the Indians. She went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. She also got the win in the circle after allowing seven hits and five runs in her seven innings of work.

Megan Kern led the Rams with a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored.

Only two of the runs in the game were earned, Sam Lindsay allowing one earned along with Taylor Lindsay. Upper Perkiomen sprung for four runs in the fourth inning to build a 6-2 lead before the Rams battled back in the bottom of the seventh. Following a Kern single and two straight walks to Maggie McConney and Sophia Cinti, Maddie Cortino hit a grounder to second which was booted to allow Kern and Bella Walker (courtesy runner for McConney) to score. With two outs, Ashley Della Guardia doubled to center field to score Ashley Vanella (pinch runner for Cinti) but a play at the plate ended it. BOYERTOWN 14, POPE JOHN PAUL II 2 >> An 11-run fifth inning was the difference as the Bears downed the Golden Panthers in crossdivis­onal play.

Sarah Reinert and Grace Evan each finished with three hits and two runs scored while Taylor Garcia (three RBI), Kody Streeter (two runs), Kylie Hertzler (two RBI), Veronica Maryanski (three RBI) and Lauren Ferguson (two RBI) each finished with two hits.

Allison Melahn got the win in the circle after striking out nine in five innings of work. POTTSGROVE 12, METHACTON 1 >> Olivia Klaptosky, Rayna Markle and Kelsey Hochstuhl swung the hot bats for the Falcons, which defeated the Warriors in six innings.

Klaptosky went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs in the victory. Markle added two hits, a run scored and two RBI with Hochstuhl going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jules Dinnocenti added two RBIs with Cori Dickinson scoring three runs.

Kira Livezey got the win in the circle after allowing five hits and one earned in six innings of work. She struck out four. NORRISTOWN 3, UPPER MERION 2 >> Steph Orman provided five-hit pitching and a home run toward the Eagles’ first win of the season in their PAC outing with the Vikings. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 12, MERCY 0 >> Juliane Haussmann threw a no-hitter while the Panthers banged out 13 hits in their TriCounty League romp over Mercy Career & Technical.

Haussmann struck out 11 in a game halted after five innings by the 10-run rule. She also had two hits and drove in two runs while Abby Glavin had three hits and Lena Felix contribute­d a pair of hits and two RBI. HILL SCHOOL 10, SHIPLEY SCHOOL 1 >> Kylie McKee was a force to be reckoned with on the mound, allowing one run, three hits, and striking out eight in seven innings. Meg Dempsey and McKee hit inside-the-park home runs in the win with Amanda Sprague adding two hits for the Blues.

Boys lacrosse

OWEN J. ROBERTS 15, PHOENIXVIL­LE 9 >> Five Wildcats shared the team’s scoring lead in their PAC victory over the Phantoms.

Austin Coury (two assists), Noah Calle, Joey Tordone, Nick DeCarlo and Cooper Chamberlai­n each netted pairs of goals while Tyler Muir (three saves) and Connor Reese (two) anchored the defense. Phoenixvil­le got a game-high four tallies from Adam Hopewood (two assists), with Derek Bullotta and Danny Jackson each scoring twice. SPRING-FORD 16, POTTSGROVE 0 >> The Rams’ three goalkeeper­s combined to blank the Falcons while four others scored pairs of goals in the PAC contest.

Kyle Pettine, Ben Swarr and Nate Wydro handled just one shot between them. On the offensive side, Danny Cassidy, Peyton Gensler, Kyle Reed and Ryan Rosenblum each had two goals to help SpringFord open a 10-0 halftime lead. METHACTON 15, NORRISTOWN 0 >> The Warriors got offensive contributi­ons from 14 different players in their PAC romp over the Eagles.

Sophomore Ethan Bryers paced Methacton (4-2, 5-6) with three goals while Chris Morgado added two goals and one assist. Goalies Harvey Smith and Matt Wall combined for the shutout win. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 13, UPPER MERION 3 >> The Vikings celebrated their Senior Night with a victory over UM headlined by Shawn Coulter’s record night.

Coulter scored at the 9:27 mark in the game for the 200th point of his career — a first for the PV program. He finished the night with two goals and three assists while junior Richie Marshall had a career night with his own two-goal, three-assist showing.

Boys volleyball

DANIEL BOONE 3, FLEETWOOD 0 >> The Blazers swept their Berks Conference match with the Tigers, winning by set scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-23.

Jamie Burns had 11 kills, Matt Lambert five kills and six digs, Ian Rathgeb nine kills and Sean Zamichieli five kills and one block to lead Boone.
