PECO donates 100 trees to Montco
NORRISTOWN >>To celebrate Arbor Day, PECO gave away 100 trees in Montgomery County on Friday.
In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, PECO recognized Arbor Day by giving away 100 trees to residents in Montgomery County as part of the Energy-Saving Trees program. All 100 trees were reserved and were distributed Friday at Norristown Farm Park.
In addition, nearly 300 additional free trees have been ordered for mail delivery. The Arbor Day Foundation and PECO also donated 20 trees to be planted in Montgomery County parks.
“We want to thank PECO for their efforts in keeping Montgomery County green and beautiful,” said Val Arkoosh, Chair, Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, who planted one of the donated trees Friday at the Norristown Farm Park along with Commissioners Ken Lawrence, Jr. and Joe Gale, and Regional External Affairs Manager at PECO, Suzanne Ryan. “These trees will brighten our streets and parks and contribute to preserving our environment, all the while saving homeowners money with reduced energy costs.”
PECO employee volunteers were on-site Friday at the Norristown Farm Park to answer questions and assist residents with picking up and loading the trees. When planted in the right place, trees can help reduce energy use through summer by shading and in the winter by slowing cold winds. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, once trees are fully grown, they can lower energy costs by up to 20 percent.
