Spring-Ford inches closer to PAC’s top seed

The Spring-Ford girls softball team moved a game closer to clinching the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s No. 1 overall seed after downing Boyertown 5-3 in a Liberty Division matchup Wednesday afternoon.

Sam Lindsay (double) and Ashley Della Guardia (two RBI, triple) both finished with two hits for the Rams, who built a 5-1 lead after five innings before holding on in the seventh.

Lindsay got the win in the circle, tossing all seven innings while allowing three earned on eight hits with three strikeouts.

Sarah Reinert led the Bears with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Taylor Garcia finished with two RBI. Boyertown fell a game and a half back of Perkiomen Valley for the last PAC playoff spot with two games remaining. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 10, NORRISTOWN 0 >> The Vikings built a 6-0 lead after three en route to a five-inning victory over the Eagles in PAC play.

Gillian Barrie finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Abby Wild led the team with three hits. Taylor Hamm swung the big bat for PV, going 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs.

Wild and Kasey Souder combined for a no-hit shutout, Wild tossing four innings and striking out six with Souder striking out one in one inning of work. OWEN J. ROBERTS 11, METHACTON 0 >> Brianna Smith exploded for a game-high six RBI on a 3-for-4 day at the plate in leading the Wildcats to a win over the Warriors.

Smith finished with a home run in the win, same as Madison Twaddell who went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Casey Walker (double) and Emily Shaheen (two runs) also had two hits in the win.

Brittney Dellaquila got the win in the circle, allowing four hits and striking out three in five innings. PHOENIXVIL­LE 6, POTTSGROVE 4 >> The Phantoms’ two-run top of the seventh broke the tie and was enough to give them the win over the Falcons.

Gina Brown led the Phantoms with three hits and an RBI while Danielle Marosek added two hits, a run scored and a triple. Mel Cappelli (one run) and Susan Duncan (one RBI) doubled for the Phantoms. Jess Eldridge got the win in the circle striking out two.

Pottsgrove received three hits from Kelsey Hochstuhl (double). UPPER PERKIOMEN 10, POPE JOHN PAUL II 0 >> The Indians pounded out 13 hits en route to a mercy-rule victory over the Golden Panthers.

Morgan Lindsay finished 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI for the Indians, who also got two-hit performanc­es from Emily Moll (two runs, RBI), Sarah Heidler (two runs, RBI), Karlee Fretz (two runs) and Taylor Lindsay.

Taylor Lindsay got the win in the circle, striking out eight in six innings of work.

Amanda Butera tripled for the Golden Panthers. She finished with two hits along with Nicole Bowen. UPPER MERION 13, POTTSTOWN 1 >> The Vikings defeated the Trojans in PAC play. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 16, RENAISSANC­E ACADEMY 12 >> A nine-run fourth inning was enough for the Panthers as they fought off a Renaissanc­e late-inning rally.

Ally Brauchle led the way for Perkiomen with three hits and three runs scored with Juliane Haussmann (three RBI), Julia Kelly (two RBI), Frances Del Toro and Paige DelConte each adding two hits in the win, which saw the Panthers lead 16-6 after four before Renaissanc­e put up a six-spot in the top of the fifth.

Baseball

UPPER MERION 4, POTTSTOWN 0 >> The Vikings rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to claim a PAC Frontier Division win against the Trojans.

UM starter Mike Hutchinson and Pottstown’s Seth Yergey were dealing from the start, both keeping the opposition scoreless through the opening six innings. John Paul Batten picked up the win in relief, giving way to just one hit and striking out two in 2-1/3 innings of work. Hutchinson finished with a triple and a run scored while Jake McGrath had a double. PHOENIXVIL­LE 4, POTTSGROVE 3 >> The Phantoms rallied for all four of their runs during the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings en route to a PAC Frontier Division win against the Falcons.

Matt Osisek-Byrne finished with a triple, two RBI and a run scored and also picked up the win with 5-2/3 innings on the mound where he struck out 11. Zach Masalski was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and an RBI in the win. Nick DeCurtis finished 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored for Pottsgrove. METHACTON 9, OWEN J. ROBERTS 8 >> The Warriors racked up 10 hits and six RBI on their way to a PAC Liberty Division win against the Warriors.

Patrick O’Neill, Demetrio Rodriguez (two runs scored) and Nick Wheeler each had two hits apiece while Ben Christian pitched six complete where he allowed seven runs (two earned) on seven hits. Josh Fulmer swung the big bat for OJR, finishing up 3-for-3

with three runs scored including a solo home run. POPE JOHN PAUL II 10, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0 >> The Golden Panthers racked up nine runs through the first three innings on their way to a PAC Frontier Division win over the Tribe.

PJP rallied for 13 hits and 10 RBI, highlighte­d by Mike Kelly’s 2-for-2 (two runs, two RBI) showing while Ryan Schwab finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Sean Sutterby was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Chris Sparacino picked up the win, striking out four in two innings of work.

Girls lacrosse

OWEN J. ROBERTS 19, METHACTON6>> The Wildcats clinched the No. 1 seed in the PAC playoffs with a victory over the Warriors.

Eloise Gebert scored five times with Danika Swech and Kelsey Kilgallon each adding four goals as OJR built a comfortabl­e 10-4 lead at the half.

Frankie Carroll added two goals for OJR, with Sophia Murray and Charlotte Lasak scoring once.

Methacton was led by three goals from Alana Cardaci and two from Jackie Cerchio. Anna Price scored once and added two assists. Rachel O’Toole made 14 saves in the loss. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 24, NORRISTOWN 5 >> Seventeen different players scored as the Vikings routed the Eagles to stay alive in the PAC playoff hunt.

Haley Cooper led the way with four goals, while Alex Maurer, Elizabeth McMahon, Kelly Owens and Sydney Marasco each found the nets twice.

With the win, the Vikings are a game ahead of Methacton (7-5) and Upper Merion (75) for the last spot in the playoff race. UPPER MERION 21, POTTSTOWN 12>> Francesca Lindelow scored a team-high eight goals while Allison Shuster added another five to go along with two assists as the Vikings defeated the Trojans in PAC play.

Riley O’Malley added three goals and two assists for Upper Merion, which also got two-goal games from Molly Weygand and Rella Staley.

Ebony Reddick led Pottstown with eight goals. PHOENIXVIL­LE 17, POTTSGROVE 15>> Becca Lewis found the net six times with Kyra Trafford adding four goals as the Phantoms came away with a Frontier Division victory.

Brooke Saylor led the Falcons with a game-best eight goals to go along with three assists. Emily Williams added five goals while Mya Kruger made 13 saves in net. GEORGE SCHOOL 14, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 3 >> Hannah Chiesa scored twice and added an assist during the Panthers’ nonconfere­nce loss against George School.

Zora Biswell scored once while Emalee Walsh had an assist. GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 12, HILL SCHOOL 11 >> Hannah Delahaye scored four goals and notched an assist during the Blues’ non-conference loss against GA.

Bree Gorman followed with a hat trick. Olivia Doody paced Germantown Academy with four goals while Maddie Burns had three goals and an assist.

Boys lacrosse

HUN SCHOOL 12, HILL SCHOOL 2 >> The Blues fell to Hun School during their MAPL contest.

Jason Bram had both goals while keeper Drew Hutchison finished with 16 saves.

Boys track

METHACTON 81, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 69 >> Though the Vikings had a trio of multiple win performers, the Warriors were able to come away with victory in the PAC Liberty Division meet between the neighborin­g rivals.

Methacton outscored PV on the track, 49-32, behind the winning efforts of Mike Clark in the 800 (2:01.9), Justin Leggin in the 3,200 (10:26.6) and its 4x800 (9:04.2) and 4x100 (45.15) relays. The Vikes’ big winners were Josh Magee in the 300 intermedia­tes (41.6) and 110 highs (16.24), Isaiah Domine in the 100 (11.4) and 200 (23.14) and Cole Peterlin in the high jump (6-2) and triple jump (41-0 ½).

Girls track

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 104, METHACTON 46 >> Christina Warren won three events to head the Vikings in their PAC Liberty Division win over the Warriors.

Warren scored her firsts in the 100 high hurdles (14.68), long jump (17-1 ½) and triple jump (37-8 ½). Michelle Daniels won twice, in the 400 (2;02.1) and 3,200 (12;45.3), as did Dorian Philpot in the shot put (33-7 ¼) and discus (94-3).

Boys golf

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 140, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 163 >> Ben Griffaton shot a low-round of 43 to lead the Panthers in a TriCounty League matchup at Butter Valley’s par-36 course. Christian Westrom added a 48 with Dani Chen finishing with a 49. Perkiomen is now 4-3-1 on the season.
