Red Sox off to 2-0 start at Region 3

Late night is all right for the Spring City American Legion baseball team.

The Red Sox ran their record to 2-0 in the Region 3 tournament Sunday night with a 5-2 win over Broomall Newtown to advance to the winners’ bracket final at Ram Stadium.

Spring City took control in a three-run seventh inning while starter Nick Brauer and reliever Jacob Mathew held down pitching duties. Thomas Hughes, Quinn McKenna, Sam Barletta and Ryan Harvey (3 RBI) had two hits each in SC’s 11-hit offense.

On Saturday, the Red Sox racked up nine runs in their first two at-bats as the Region 3 tournament host team and Chester County League champions smashed the Greater Norristown League winners 14-2 in the final opening day game at Ram Stadium.

slam in the fourth inning to leave no doubt. Ryan Harvey went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Quinn McKenna and Kasey Caras each had two RBI. NORCHESTER 9, HELLERTOWN 8 » The Norchester American Legion baseball team dramatical­ly kept its season alive Sunday morning with a 9-8 walkoff victory over Hellertown in 11 innings at the Region 2 Tournament at West Lawn.

Austyn Levengood was the hero when he two-run single plated Nathan Cummins and Andrew Fisher with the decisive runs with one out in the 11th. Levengood (three RBI) and Cummins each had three hits while Ryan Cusic had two hits.

The Berks County League champion Bulldogs rallied twice in their last chances, forcing extras by scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth before answering Hellertown taking a 8-7 lead in the top of the 11th.

Norchester reliever Dan Stofko was outstandin­g in reflief throwing four innings of two-hit ball, allowing one run (zero earned) with four strikeouts in support of Cal Endy (7 IP, 5H, 7R, 6ER, 4 BB, 5 K).

Hellertown, which was eliminated, rallied from down 5-2 with a five-run seventh inning.

Senior Babe Ruth

The Pine Forge Indians stayed alive in the Pa. State Sr Babe Ruth Tournament with two wins Sunday.

In Game 1, Noah Kurtz hurled a two-hit shutout of Caln in a 2-0 win. He struck out five. Counterpar­t Damon Nelson went five innings and gave up two runs on two hits.

Ryan Jacobs scored on a wild pitch in the first inning and Jose Santana’s RBI single added an insurance run.

In Game 2, Pine Forge got strong pitching again as Yadi Parilla went five innings to earn the win in an 8-2 victory against Bucks County Falcons. Bucks County and Pine Forge played for the state championsh­ip last year. The win avenged an opening round 5-4 loss to Bucks County.

Pine Forge extended a 1-0 lead in the third to score three on a single by Ryan Jacobs, double by Ben Longacre, single by Nick Chroscinsk­i, sac fly by John DeMartino and single by Jose Santana.

Pine Forge added another run in the 5th and another three in the 6th with the big hit being a home run to left by Barrett Dunkelberg­er..

Pine Forge continues play Monday at 11 a.m. at Harner Field in Douglass Township against Twin Valley.
