Police: 26 taken to hospitals after bus interstate crash

EASTON, PA. » Authoritie­s say a bus flipped over after colliding with a tractortra­iler on a Pennsylvan­ia interstate, sending more than two dozen people to hospitals.

State police say the rig’s front end collided with the rear of the bus around 3:30 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 78 in Williams Township, about 65 miles (105 kilometers) north of Philadelph­ia.

Police said the bus overturned and landed on its side, causing several injuries.

All 26 people on the small, private bus were taken to hospitals. St. Luke’s University Health Network told The (Allentown) Morning Call three of eight people taken there were admitted with serious but not critical injuries. Lehigh Valley Health Network treated 10 patients for minor injuries.

Clerk stabbed in store near Philadelph­ia’s City Hall

PHILADELPH­IA » Authoritie­s say a clerk in a convenienc­e store near Philadelph­ia’s City Hall was stabbed by a man believed to be homeless.

Police said a man asked the clerk in the 7-Eleven store for cigarettes shortly before 6:30 a.m. Sunday, then asked for five more packs. Officials said he then pulled a large knife from his pants pockets, jumped on the counter and stabbed the 58-year-old worker in the head, neck and shoulder.

Police said the clerk struggled with the attacker and knocked him off the counter and he dropped his black hooded jacket and knife and fled without taking anything.

The clerk was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and admitted for observatio­n in stable condition.

1 killed, 1 seriously injured after buggy hit by car

HUNTINGDON, PA. » Authoritie­s say one person was killed and another seriously injured after a car struck a horse and buggy on a Philadelph­ia highway.

State police in Huntingdon County said a vehicle heading west on William Penn Highway in Henderson Township hit the rear of the buggy shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle then hit a parked vehicle outside a Kwik Fill and plowed into the building, coming to a stop with its front end inside the store.

Police said one occupant of the buggy was pronounced dead at the scene and another was flown to UPMC Altoona for treatment of injuries that police called serious. The name of the person killed wasn’t immediatel­y released. The driver of the parked car was taken a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
