Pochet cards 36 to lead Rams past Phoenixvil­le at Turtle Creek

The Spring-Ford boys golf team got its 2017 season off to a good start Tuesday, outshootin­g Phoenixvil­le in a nine-hole match at Turtle Creek.

Ben Pochet took low-man honors by carding a evenpar 36. Jack Straub and Luke Watson followed at 39 for a Ram unit coming off a runner-up finish in the Pioneer Athletic Conference last fall.

Mitchell Schwartz shot a 43 to lead the Phantoms, with Parker Stevens and J.T. Sinnot scoring 43s. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 217, POTTSGROVE 245 » The Vikings turned in the match’s five lowest scores as they handled the Falcons in a nine-hole PAC contest at Gilbertsvi­lle.

Andrew Burkhardt’s round of 42 netted him lowman honors, with Christian Riehs one back at 43. Colin Leary, Andrew Giorgi and Brian McMonigle all had 44s for PV, finishing ahead of Pottsgrove co-leaders Wyatt Yashura and Brett Pennington (47). OWEN J. ROBERTS 215, BOYERTOWN 226 » Ward McHenry emerged as low man for the Wildcats, leading their PAC season-opening win over the Bears on Hickory Valley’s Ambassador Course.

McHenry carded a 40 on the par-36 layout, one stroke better than teammate Frankie Guinan’s 41. Mark Engler and John Engle shared low-score honors for Boyertown with 42s. NORRISTOWN 268, UPPER MERION 293 » Caleb Ryan shot a 38 to key the Eagles’ PAC victory over the Vikings. Norristown also got a 39 from Josh Ryan. Nathan Ramanjala was low man for UM at 50. EXETER 18.5, DANIEL BOONE 5.5 » Colin Gabbett was the star for the Blazers in their 12-hole Berks Conference match with the Eagles at Reading Country Club.

Gabbett, a 3-0 winner over Tanner Fitzgerald in their duel, shot a 52 to finish one stroke ahead of Exeter’s Alex Seelig. Evan Pingitore added a 2-1 verdict for Boone (1-2) over Josiah Thompson in their pairing,
