Community News in Brief
Amity: An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Amity Place Personal Care Community, 139 Old Swede Road. Call 610-385-7600 to schedule a time slot.
Pottstown: A Penn-Vet Canine Blood Mobile will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, at K-9 Cottage, 3208 W. Ridge Pike. The canine blood bank is getting dangerously low. Donating dogs need to be from 1 to 5-years-old, 50-plus pounds and of good health. This is NOT a one time commitment as they ask for bi-monthly draws. We need the help of dogs in the community to fill next month’s appointment spots. Limited spots are available to please call 610-715-0649.
Royersford: The eighth annual butterfly celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, weather permitting, at the Upper Schuylkill Valley Park, 1615 Black Rock Road. It will include information on tagging, feeding and raising butterflies. This year the park is hosting local butterfly expert Ron Richael as he shares his expertise on attracting butterflies; his presentation will take place at noon. Fun for the kids will include hands-on activities, face painting, a butterfly-themed craft to make and take home, and butterfly bingo played at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and noon. If the weather allows, the butterflies will be released at 12:45 p.m. so they can begin their journey before winter. This program is suitable for all ages. There is a $4 per person suggested donation.
