Assault is most reported crime

POTTSTOWN » Assaults were the leading crime in Pottstown over the past week.

According to crimemapping. com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area, assault was the most reported crime in Pottstown since Aug. 22.

Six of the eight incidents involving assaults were reported to be non-aggravated instances and occurred on Walnut Street, King Street, West King Street, the 600 block of East High Street, the 500 block of Walnut Street and the 100 block of North Adams Street. An assault involving hands, feet and fists was reported on Washington Street along with an assault with a knife on the 300 block of North Hanover Street.

Theft was the second most reported crime over the past week with five incidents occurring since Aug. 22. Two bicycle thefts were reported on the 100 block of North York Street and the 300 block of West Walnut Street along with a retail theft on the 300 block of East High Street and a theft of auto parts on Upland Street.

Drug and alcohol violations and incidents involving disturbing the peace were both reported four times. Harassment was reported on South Roland Street, West third Street and East Second Street along with an incident of disorderly conduct on the 100 block of East High Street. Two drug sales occurred on West High Street and the 400 block of Spruce Street as well as one case of public drunkenness on the 1600 block of East High Street and one case of drug possession on West King Street.

Vehicle break-ins were reported three times over the past week including incidents on the 500 block of Chestnut Street, the 400 block of South Street and the 900 block of North Evans Street.

Fraud was reported on the 100 block of North Hanover Street and the 300 block of North Evans Street.

Vandalism and vehicle theft were each reported once. Criminal mischief to vehicles was reported on the 400 block of Beech Street and vehicle theft was reported on the 700 block of North Charlotte Street.
