Pottstown: Tavern Night will be hosted at Pottsgrove Manor, 100 W. King St., from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, rain or shine. Sample beer, wine and spirits from local vendors, Sly Fox Brewing Company, Manatawny Still Works and Ridgeway Winery, and discover how alcohol and American drinking culture has changed since the 18th century. Stop by the 18th Century reconstruc­ted kitchen and smell what the cooks will be up to as they make authentic colonial recipes. Modern food will also be provided by Yellow Springs Catering Company. Play historic tavern and parlor games with period interprete­rs and try your hand at some colonial lawn games. Register in advance on the website at http://www. montcopa.org/930/Pottsgrove-Manor for the discounted rate of $30 before Sept. 10. Or buy tickets at the door for $35. Ticket price includes admission, food, and alcoholic drinks. Designated Drivers are a flat $10. This program welcomes all aged 21-plus.

Chester Springs:

The Mill at Anselma will host

Ryan Conroy, historian and president of the Historical Society of the Phoenixvil­le Area, as its monthly speaker on Thursday, Sept. 7. He will lead a discussion about the history of the men and woman of Northern Chester who served during World War I from the North Chester County region from towns such as Phoenixvil­le, Spring City and more. This event will be held in Bell Hall at Montgomery School, 1141 Kimberton Road. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception, followed by the evening’s topic at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $5. Members of the Mill attend free of charge. This talk commemorat­es the 100th anniversar­y of America’s involvemen­t in the war. Conroy will feature individual soldiers, regiments and the area’s contributi­on on the battlefron­t and the home front in his remarks and in a display of original items from his personal collection. This talk will also provide a glimpse into the current exhibit “Over There and Over Here: Phoenixvil­le in WWI” at The Historical Society of the Phoenixvil­le Area.
