Sanatoga Corp. going strong in its 91st year of business

-

It’s probably fair to say there are few people who’ve lived in the Pottstown area at one time or another that haven’t purchased at least one appliance from Sanatoga Corp., one of the oldest and most enduring family businesses in the area, now in its third generation of family ownership.

In the era of big-box super stores, Sanatoga Corp., which is the largest independent appliance dealer in the area and the only appliance parts dealer in the area, still operates out of its original location. It is operated by Bryan Wittenmyer and his sisters, Connie and Karen.

“No one has as many in-stock appliances anywhere in this area,” says Wittenmyer. “And that includes the big-box and department stores.” People are frequently surprised to find out how many home appliances on display throughout the store’s

two floors. We offer popular domestic and name-brand products, including Frigidaire, G.E., Kitchenaid, Electrolux, Whirlpool, Maytag and Bosch, and some of the newer companies like Samsung and LG.

“A lot of people ask, ‘How do you compete with the big boxes?’” says Wittenmyer.

He explains that being part of the biggest buying co-op on the East Coast, one with over 500 members, permits stores such as this to buy as one and successfully compete with chain stores. Plus, this offers them the ability to order appliances that are not in stock and have them delivered to the store in 24 hours, something the “bigbox” stores are rarely able to do.

The store sells most major home appliances including kitchen ranges, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, microwaves, dishwashers, washers and dryers. Recent additions to the product line are ecofriendly attachments for washing machines that permit users to clean and sanitize clothes without detergent.

Wittenmyer says Sanatoga Corp. has remained strong because of “the family’s commitment to quality, affordable pricing and superior customer service. The staff has years of product knowledge, which is frequently lacking in larger operations.

“We have a lot of returning customers, and we usually know them by name or by face. I believe we have a better relationship with our customers than the bigger stores do. We’ve seen a lot of stores come and go, but we are still going strong.”

Sanatoga Corp. is located at 2783 E. High St. in Pottstown. They offer free delivery, free removal of old appliances within certain distances and free installation on most items.
