Donald LeRoy Hartman, 79, of Alburtis, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in the in-patient hospice unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the longtime companion of Nancy J. (Kunkel) Kramer, with whom he resided.

Born in Slatington, Donald was the son of the late Paul O. Hartman and Ellen Hartman. Donald honorably and faithfully served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked at Dutch Maid Bakery, Temple, for 10 years, retiring in 2003. For most of his career, Donald was employed by NGK Metals Corp., Temple, for over 30 years, first as a machine operator, and later working in their laboratory. He also worked at the former Caloric Corporatio­n, Topton.

Donald was an outdoorsma­n who enjoyed camping, and in recent years, fishing. He also had a love for traveling, playing cards, and playing the lottery.

In addition to his companion of 37 years, Nancy, Donald is survived by his five children, Donna L. (Hartman) Shoemaker, companion of Mark E. Weaver, Sinking Spring, Gary W., husband of Sue G. (Findlay) Hartman, Kutztown, Wendy L. (Hartman) Diehl, Mertztown, Troy K., husband of Tracy L. (Feldman) Riegel, Kutztown, and Diana L.(Riegel) Baker, Kutztown; ten grandchild­ren, Ryan R. and Brandon C. Shoemaker, Patrick W. and Kyle T. Hartman, Travis R. and Tyler S. Diehl, Caleb D. and Shaera L. Riegel, and Peyton L. and Danielle L. Kauffman; five stepchildr­en, Joe, Carl, Tom, Mike and Brian, and their families. He is also survived by his six siblings, Betty (Hartman) Anicola, Kutztown, Norman “JR” Reppert, Breinigsvi­lle, Jean (Reppert) Moore, Schnecksvi­lle, Darlene (Reppert) Dittrick, Laurel, DE, Dawn Marie Reppert, Kutztown and Dennis Reppert, Florida. He was predecease­d by his parents and a brother, Harold Hartman.

A funeral service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held on Thursday, September, 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Interment, with military honors, will follow in New Bethel Zion Cemetery, Kutztown (Grimville). Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
